Alouettes Jamal Davis Generating Interest From Multiple NFL Teams

With the CFL offseason now underway, players will start to move around in the coming weeks and months. While most of them will only be changing teams within Canada, some have performed well enough to get an opportunity in America.

One name to look out for is Montreal Alouettes DE/OLB Jamal Davis, a former University of Akron standout. Davis’ 2021 season was his first in the CFL, and he proved to be a solid contributor. Through 9 games (all of which were starts), he recorded 17 tackles, 4 sacks, and a defensive touchdown.

Davis was originally signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2019. After finding himself on a few practice squads, Davis appeared in three games for the Miami Dolphins at the end of the season. In 2020, he returned to his native Ohio to play for the Browns, but was never elevated to the active roster.

According to Pro Football Chase, six teams have reached out to Davis. He has meetings scheduled with three of them, and the first will take place on December 28th. Davis has not officially announced his departure from the CFL, but things are starting to trend in that direction. Assuming the NFL rumors become reality, Davis would be on a reserve/futures deal, meaning he won’t play until 2022. Just like in the past, he’d be fighting for a spot on the 53.

Regardless of what happens, Davis is not the only player on the NFL’s radar. Argonauts defensive back Jamal Peters was mentioned in a few scouting reports, but there’s been no further development with that story so far. What’s certain is that the CFL doesn’t have a talent problem, and even if there are some more general concerns with the league, coaches and executives are still trying to find playmakers in a variety of places.
