Three games aren’t enough to know who won the trade, but it’s looking more and more likely that it was a good deal for Calgary. Â
Vernon Adams Jr.’s Stats
Through three games, Vernon Adams Jr. has put up some impressive stats:
53/83 (62.4%)
803 yards passingÂ
0 td
3 ints
108 yards rushing (1 td)
Adams has done a great job attacking defenses with both his arms and legs. His ability to move in the pocket and extend plays long enough to find a receiver has been particularly impressive.Â
Unfortunately, there is one thing missing from his early-season resume: a touchdown pass.Â
Adams will need to find the endzone more often if the team is going to improve on their 2–1 record.Â
Calgary Stampeders’ Record
The Calgary Stampeders currently stand third in the West, behind the undefeated Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Being in the middle of five teams might not sound great, but considering many people picked them to finish last in the West, it’s progress.Â
But progress only matters if they can keep it up.Â
Vernon Adams Jr.’s Intangibles
The Vernon Adams Jr. trade will most likely go down as a win-win.
The Stampeders got a clear upgrade at the QB position, while the BC Lions got draft capital for a player they had no intention of starting going forward.Â
Adams has quickly become the Stampeders’ leader, not just for his play on the field, but his presence off it. His leadership and intangibles bring just as much to the team as the yards he gets on the field.Â
What’s Next For The Calgary Stampeders?
Week four was the Calgary Stampeders’ first week of the season. They spent it practicing and making roster moves.Â
Now the team is ready to get back on the field and continue their playoff chase. It will be interesting to see if Vernon Adams Jr. and the rest of the offense can get into the end zone more going forward.Â
The next move will be to remove the President and the Head coaches and GM. The team each year makes terrible decisions that affect the play on the field. Adams is getting closer, but still not the man and the offensive schemes are terrible, which could be a large part of the problem.
I’m convinced that Dickenson can not coach or pick suitable players. Time to move on.
