BC Lions Bring Back 2023-First-Rounder DL Anthony Bennett

The BC Lions announced on Monday that they have re-signed National defensive lineman Anthony Bennett. He originally joined the team in August of this year and appeared in four regular-season games, recording one special teams tackle.

Bennett began the 2025 season with the Ottawa RedBlacks. He suited up in two games for Ottawa, adding two special teams tackles before being released in July.

He was selected eighth overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2023 CFL Draft and played in all 18 regular-season games as a rookie, plus the Western Final and 110th Grey Cup. That year, he recorded eight defensive tackles and three special teams tackles. He was released ahead of the 2024 season.

Bennett signed a one-year deal with the Montreal Alouettes in February 2025 but was released before training camp.

Bennett played his collegiate ball at Florida Atlantic University from 2015 to 2019, appearing in 9 games. He transferred to the Regina Rams for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, where he played in 14 games and totaled 63 tackles, 11 sacks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, one interception, and two passes defended. He was First Team All-Canadian and Canada West in 2022.

At the 2023 CFL Combine, Bennett ran a 4.76-second 40-yard dash, posted a 30-inch vertical jump, and a 9’6” broad jump. He was ranked as the third-highest U Sports prospect and 16th overall entering the draft.
