BC Lions Extend FB Riley Pickett Through 2027 Season

The BC Lions announced on Friday that they have signed Canadian fullback Riley Pickett to a 2 year contract extension that will keep him with the Lions through 2027. He was previously set to become a free agent in February.

Pickett was drafted by the BC Lions 41st overall in the 2022 CFL Draft after playing defensive end collegiately. He converted to long snapper in 2023 and to fullback in 2025.

“Riley embodies the grit and toughness we’re looking for, as we continue to build this roster,” stated Lions General Manager Ryan Rigmaiden.

“I love his story of converting from a U-Sports defensive end into one of the best fullbacks and special teams players in the league. He’s going to continue to get better on the field and remain a leader in the locker room. We’re lucky to have him on our team.”

Pickett caught 7 passes this past season for 56 yards and rushed 3 times for 6 yards. He made 11 tackles on special teams over the regular season and 2 in the playoffs.

Pickett played for the Saskatchewan Huskies from 2018 to 2021, appearing in 30 games. He recorded 198 total tackles (65 solo, 43 assisted), 21 tackles for a loss, 14 sacks, 6 knockdowns, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries with the program. The Huskies won a Hardy Cup in 2018 and made it to the Vanier Cup in 2021. Pickett was recognized as a Canada West All-Star in 2021.
