BC Lions Go Back to UFL Talent Well Signing WR Isaiah Winstead

The BC Lions announced on Tuesday the signing of wide receiver Isaiah Winstead, who played for the Arlington Renegades in the UFL over the last 2 seasons. Winstead gives quarterbacks a big catch radius at 6’3 with reliable hands and has proven difficult for defenders to bring down his 210-pound frame.

The Lions also released defensive lineman Kemoko Turay on Tuesday.

Recent Acquisitions From UFL Talent Pool

This is the third time this season the Lions have signed talent that played in the UFL this year. On September 8, the Lions signed DE Bradlee Anae, who, by my count, had the 2nd most pressures in scenarios where they were blocked this past UFL season despite missing 3 games to injury. Over 8 games, including playoffs, Anea had 56 pressures past a blocker over 8 games in addition to his 4 sacks.

The Lions more recently signed DT Levi Bell on August 28, who played a season shortened by injury for the Michigan Panthers this past season, recording 4 tackles over 4 games.

Winstead’s 2025 Season

Winstead was the third most targeted player for Arlington, catching 31 of his 47 targets for 307 yards over 10 games for the Renegades over the 2025 campaign. He was a reliable target for Luis Perez, as by my count, he had only 1 drop over the season. By my tracking, he had the 5th-best ratio in drops to receptions in the UFL last season.

2024

Winstead played for the Arlington Renegades in 2024 as well, which saw him appear in 7 games and record 12 catches for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns. He signed with the New York Jets, where he spent the preseason in 2024 but was released in final cuts.

2023

Winstead signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2023, where he spent time on the practice squad.

Collegiate Career

Winstead began his collegiate career at Norfolk State, where he caught 83 passes for 977 yards and 8 touchdowns over 22 games from 2017 to 2018. He played for Toledo in 2020 and 2021, where he caught 62 passes for 932 yards and 4 touchdowns over 18 games. He finished his collegiate career with East Carolina in 2022, where he hauled in 88 passes for 1,085 yards and 6 touchdowns.
