Calgary QB Mitchell Could Miss Start Against Montreal

A tough break for the Calgary Stampeders as they could lose starting quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell for Friday’s game against the Montreal Alouettes.

TSN’s Farhan Lalji reported Monday that Mitchell will be out Friday with a leg injury and could miss more time after that as well.

The injury first occurred in week one’s loss against Toronto and appeared to have an effect on Mitchell during last week’s game. He threw four interceptions in the loss to BC which was the worst game of his career. There is a chance that he could miss two games.

“It’s definitely in doubt. We let multiple guys take reps today. I’m not putting him out there if he doesn’t feel good. I still think I want to have [Michael O’Connor] and Jake (Maier) doing everything they can to be ready to play — both of them — and I’ll make that decision as the week goes on. Certainly in doubt.”

Calgary Stampeders Head Coach Dave Dickenson

The first two games of the season have not been so fun for Mitchell losing both games. In two starts, he’s thrown for 542 yards with one touchdown and five interceptions.

Mitchell is no stranger to injuries though as his 2019 season saw him miss time with a pectoral injury. He also sat out most of training camp with soreness to his lower body.

The Stampeders will most likely turn to Michael O’Connor to take over the job in Mitchell’s place. Should O’Connor start, he would become the second Canadian to start at quarterback this season after Nathan Rourke of BC. O’Connor has appeared in only two CFL games recording 173 passing yards and one touchdown.

Bo is out for several games. Johnny Manziel should be signed up to fill the void.
