Saskatchewan is playing with purpose. After a narrow 34-30 Labour Day win over Winnipeg in week 13, Saskatchewan followed up by winning the Banjo Bowl rematch in Winnipeg. Whenever Winnipeg meets Saskatchewan, fans expect a hard-fought contest, and this game delivered. DaMarcus Fields recorded 6 tackles and 1 interception. Saskatchewan’s defense was formidable in the second half, shutting out Winnipeg. Ultimately, Saskatchewan secured a 21-13 road win, forcing 4 Winnipeg turnovers—too many for Winnipeg to overcome.

Calgary aimed to win the back-to-back series with Edmonton at Commonwealth Stadium. This time, Edmonton responded forcefully. Calgary struggled to run the ball, as Dedrick Mills was limited to 38 yards on 8 carries. In the passing game, Vernon Adams Jr. spread out Edmonton’s defense. Erik Brooks contributed 6 catches for 115 yards. The key factor in their 31-19 loss was Calgary’s inability to stop Edmonton’s powerful ground attack.
Next game: Calgary will be on a bye in week 14. Their next scheduled game will be on Friday, September 19th, 2025, vs. BC.
Record: 7-5

Hamilton had a date with a divisional rival, Montreal, and looked good doing so with a 26-9 road win. This was a solid defensive performance for the Black and Gold, limiting Montreal to 14 first downs the entire game. And it did not stop there. The Tabbies created a lot of problems for the Montreal offence, keeping them to 254 yards of total offence, along with a time of possession of 25:17. Kenny Lawler was at it again with 4 receptions for 79 yards and a 19.8 average yards per catch. Greg Bell exposed the Montreal defence with 156 rushing yards on 20 carries with 1 touchdown and a 7.8 average yards per carry.
Next game: Friday, September 12th, 2025, vs. Winnipeg.
Record: 6-6
Previous ranking: 3
When you’re a football team that has been dominant in the West division for the last 5 seasons, you are a team that is the focal point and the benchmark for other teams in your division, along with the league for that matter. For Zach Collaros, it is another setback as he encountered another headshot in the 3rd quarter. Winnipeg has had its fair share of injuries this season. Unfortunately for Winnipeg, the injury bug has been a common occurrence this season. Moreover, they have been turning the ball over more often than in seasons past. This season definitely feels different for Winnipeg. With that said, Winnipeg will have to dig very deep for its last 6 games of the season. Good teams find ways to win. They are an experienced team. As of now, being a resilient team will have to be on display in the last remaining games of the season.

5 – Toronto Argonauts

The Boatmen were on a bye in week 14. Toronto will be at home when they take on a hot team, with Edmonton visiting BMO Field for a must-win game for both Edmonton and Toronto.
Next game: Saturday, September 13th, 2025, vs. Edmonton
6 – Edmonton Elks
Record: 5-7
Previous ranking: 8
Edmonton was looking for answers to their sub-par performance on Labour Day in a return match with their heated rivals, Calgary. Edmonton showed a lot of character in this game, pounding the running game. Justin Rankin displayed a solid performance with 204 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns, and a whopping 12.8 average yards per carry. On the defence, Edmonton was finally able to challenge the Calgary offensive line. Noah Taylor (1 sack), Jonathan Kongbo (2 sacks), and Brandon Barlow (1 sack). Chelen Games also contributed with 1 interception. This was one of the best games Edmonton played this season. More importantly, Edmonton finally won a divisional game.
Next game: Saturday, September 13th, 2025, in Toronto.
7 – Ottawa Redblacks
Record: 4-8
Previous ranking: 9
Ottawa was looking to accumulate as many victories as they could until Dru Brown is ready to come back as QB 1. It did not go well by any stretch when Ottawa entered the 2nd half. Being down only 13-3 was still a doable game for the Redblacks. With that said, the offence woke up and exposed the BC defence with a 34-33 upset victory. Dustin Crum showed his magic as he has done in the past, completing the game with 301 passing yards and 1 touchdown. He was able to spread the BC defence and hit his targets in that of Kalil Pimpleton for 95 yards, Justin Hardy for 64 yards, Bralon Addison for 39 yards, and Eugene Lewis for 31 yards and a 1 touchdown. Dustin Crum would also expose BC again, as he would run for 69 yards and 2 touchdowns. They will now do this all over again, as Ottawa is scheduled to head out west and face BC again for week 15.
Next game: Friday, September 12th, 2025, in BC.
8 – BC Lions
Record: 5-7
Previous ranking: 6
If the Lions are looking to inch closer to a playoff spot in 2025, their performance vs. Ottawa is an opportunity lost. This was a game they let slip away. You have to give credit where credit is due, with Ottawa chipping away at a 17-point deficit at one point in the 2nd half. Unfortunately for BC, closing out games has been a problem this season. You cannot blame the offence on this one. This was simply on the defence.
Next game: Friday, September 12th, 2025, vs. Ottawa.
Record: 5-7
Previous ranking: 7
Montreal has now lost 5 games in a row. What appeared to be a promising season has now hit an all-time low. But the season is not over yet, and the Alouettes can still salvage their season down the stretch. Moreover, their offence needs to find ways to put points on the board when Davis Alexander is not present. In football, it’s often said that defence wins you championships, and the offence wins games. It’s true to a certain extent. If the offence cannot move the ball, and the defence is back on the field after just catching its breath, then this becomes counterintuitive. Montreal could face the harsh reality of missing the playoffs, as both Toronto and Ottawa are making ground.
