There was a lot of great football in week 15. Montreal was the big surprise as they shocked the best team in the CFL, Saskatchewan. Hamilton continued their winning ways over Winnipeg. BC exacts its revenge on Ottawa. And Toronto, overcoming a lot of turnovers, won with a walk-off field goal over Edmonton.
Hello CFL fans, here are your CFL News Hub power rankings—the aftermath of week 15.
Record: 10 – 3
Previous ranking: 1
When you’re a team like Saskatchewan that has been rolling this season, there will be a time when you hit a bump on the road. That bump on the road was vs. a Montreal team that has been a sinking stone. It’s inevitable in pro football. It’s difficult to obtain a near-perfect record during the duration of a football season. There are a lot of things that have to go your way. For what it was worth, Saskatchewan hit a bump on the road in week 15. Montreal was desperate to snap a 5-game losing streak and finally showed up to play against the CFL’s elite.
Next game: Saskatchewan will be on a bye for week 16. Their next scheduled game will be on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, in Edmonton.
Record: 8 – 4
Previous ranking: 2
Calgary had a rest in week 15. They will now focus on a BC team that is fighting for a playoff spot in week 16.
Next game: Friday, September 19th, 2025, vs. BC.
Record: 8 – 5
Previous ranking: 3
The Tiger–Cats did not disappoint their fans at Hamilton Stadium and displayed their physical presence towards Winnipeg. The goal for the Black and Gold was to create separation between Montreal and Toronto. They achieved just that with a solid performance led by Kyler Fisher with 11 tackles. In the secondary, Jamal Peters and DaShawn Amos both contributed with 1 interception. On the offence, it was Greg Bell running for 137 yards with a 6.2 average per carry. Kenny Lawler had another big game with 97 receiving yards.
Next game: Saturday, September 20th, 2025, vs. Edmonton.
4 – Toronto Argonauts
Record: 5 – 8
Previous ranking: 5
It looked as if Toronto almost blew the game, but it was a case of resilience for the Double Blue. How they overcame 4 interceptions and 2 turnovers on downs remains a mystery. Any team that overcomes a 6-turnover game and only runs the ball for 45 yards has no chance of winning any game. Football is weird that way. The Argos were able to turn the tables in the 2nd half on Edmonton. Edmonton had a problem covering both Jake Herslow and Makai Polk, who were clutch in key drives moving the ball. The late John Candy would not have it any other way, as it was a celebration of his life on that day in Toronto. The football Gods were simply on Toronto’s side, no matter how many turnovers were created.
Next game: Friday, September 19th, 2025, vs. Montreal.
5 – BC Lions
Record: 6 – 7
Previous ranking: 8
Time is of the essence for BC. The Lions are not in a position to take any games for granted, should they achieve the goal of obtaining a playoff spot for the 2025 season. In week 15, they stayed the course at least for now, with a 38-27 win over Ottawa. Nathan Rourke was magical, accounting for 344 total yards, 1 touchdown pass, and 2 touchdown runs. BC is in a good spot to potentially pass Winnipeg in the standings, should they upset Calgary in week 16, along with a Winnipeg loss to Ottawa.
Next game: Friday, September 19th, 2025, in Calgary.
Record: 6 – 7
Previous ranking: 4
The Blue Bombers were looking for a positive game in Hamilton when they took on the Tiger-Cats. Unfortunately for the Blue and Gold, they suffered another defeat in a 32-21 loss. Winnipeg was only able to account for 3 points in both the 2nd and 3rd quarters of the game. It was a game where they left a few points off the scoreboard. Brady Oliveira had 116 yards rushing, and Chris Streveler accounted for an additional 82 yards on the ground and 1 touchdown. The 198 combined rushing yards were still not enough to walk away with a victory in the Hammer.
Next game: Saturday, September 20th, 2025, in Ottawa.
Record: 6 – 7
Previous ranking: 9
Montreal fans were wondering when their 5-game losing streak would finally come to a halt. Even a football realist would not have thought that the Alouettes would enter one of the most hostile environments in the CFL and walk away as a winner. McLeod Bethel-Thompson was amazing with his approach and execution in Regina, as was the case with Tyson Philpot. After jumping to a 28-10 lead at halftime, the Alouettes continued to push forward in the second half and maintained control for the majority of the game. In the end, they would walk away with a 48-31 victory. Could this have been the game that could turn around their season? Only time will tell.
Next game: Friday, September 19th, 2025, in Toronto.
8 – Edmonton Elks
Record: 5 – 8
Previous ranking: 6
When the Elks entered Toronto in week 15, they were in a great position to obtain a victory. It was also the same case with Toronto. For the fans who saw this game live, it was a back-and-forth swing of momentum. In the case of Edmonton, they let this game slip away. Unable to execute a balanced attack and unable to capitalize on 6 turnovers, Edmonton can look at this game as a big opportunity lost. It will be a grind for Edmonton for its last 5 scheduled games of the 2025 season. They will now have to head to Hamilton to face a difficult opponent.
Next game: Saturday, September 20th, 2025, in Hamilton.
9 – Ottawa Redblacks
Record: 4 – 9
Previous ranking: 7
The Redblacks were seeking their 2nd win in a row with the Lions in their back-to-back meeting of the season. Unfortunately for Ottawa, and despite playing a good game, they fell short of this achievement. Sitting with a 4-9 record, they will have to be perfect in the 5 remaining games. Dustin Crum has a solid performance, going 30 for 35 in pass attempts, 307 passing yards, and 1 touchdown pass. He also had a great performance in the running attack, contributing with 58 yards and 2 touchdowns. Everything was looking good for Ottawa to cause an upset in this game. Unfortunately for Ottawa, they were unable to score any points in the 4th quarter.
Next game: Saturday, September 20th, 2025, vs. Winnipeg.
