CFL News Hub Power Rankings.  The Aftermath of Week 3.

It was another exciting week in the CFL, now that week 3 is officially concluded.  We saw teams flex their muscles to retain their spots in the previous rankings, along with Ottawa finally earning a victory in the 2025 season.  Mix in the high drama of some great plays, and week 3 was a fun one to watch.

Here are your power rankings after week 3.

1:  Montreal Alouettes

Previous ranking:  1

Record:  3 – 0

There was a time when Alouette fans were worried about the potential comeback by Edmonton in the 4th quarter when Edmonton engineered 22 points in the 4th quarter alone.  But the Alouettes maintained their composure and weathered the storm.  In 3 games played, and only 56 total points allowed, the Alouettes’ defence has stood tall.  However, there was a scare with Davis Alexander exiting the game early in the first half, as he appeared to have a slight hamstring pull in his left leg.  He was taken out of the game for precautionary reasons and would not return for the duration of the game.

Next game:  Friday, June 27th at Hamilton

2.  Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Previous ranking:  2

Record:  2 – 0

With a bye in week 1, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers had back–to–back dates with the Lions and already won the season series 2 – 0 as they are not scheduled to meet again this season unless they meet in the playoffs.  It was also the first game Zach Collaros suited up for the Blue and Gold.  In this game, Zach Collaros experienced his 50th win as a Blue Bombers quarterback in 70 games played, along with his 200th touchdown pass in his CFL career.  There were a lot of things that went Winnipeg’s way in BC Place Stadium.  Their defence was vicious coming up with a lot of bone-jarring hits in a vintage Winnipeg fashion.

Next game:  Thursday, June 26th vs. Edmonton

3.  Saskatchewan Roughriders

Previous ranking:  3

Record:  3 – 0

This was either a game of Saskatchewan being lucky to win or that of the one that almost got away.  It appeared to be going Toronto’s way in the 2nd half, scoring 11 points in the 3rd quarter and 11 points in the 4th quarter respectively.  But it took a storybook ending with Super Mario Alford returning a 69-yard kickoff and bringing it back to the house for 99 yards with just seconds remaining in the game.  At the end of the day, a win is a win.  And in pro football, you take any win you can, regardless of the mistakes on the field.

Next game:  Saturday, June 28th vs. B.C.

4.  Ottawa Redblacks

Previous ranking:  6

Record:  1 – 2

It is not often we have a losing record slotted at 4th on the power rankings.  Factoring in who played who in week 3, along with the odd upset at the moment, the Ottawa Redblacks happen to be in this conversation.  The Redblacks looked good against the Stampeders, especially on the defensive side of the ball.  Calgary might have had a net offence of 367 yards, with a whopping 160 yards on the ground, but the Redblacks shut the door down by only allowing 12 points.  It was a case of bend but don’t break for the Ottawa defence.  More importantly, they got a road win.  For a team that was 2 – 7 on the road last season, it’s a baby step in the right direction.

Next game:  Sunday, June 29th vs. Toron

5.  Calgary Stampeders

Previous ranking:  4

Record:  2 – 1

Sometim

es, an effort in football can be unforgiving.  This was the case with Calgary when they played Ottawa.  The Calgary offence did what you could expect it to do, but it happened to be minus the points on the scoreboard.  Veron Adams Jr. is yet to throw a touchdown pass this season.  Nobody saw this coming.  He will have to wait two more weeks, as the Stampeders’ next game will be in week 5

Next game:   Bye in week 4.  The Calgary Stampeders’ next game will be on Thursday, July 3rd, vs. Winnipeg.

6.  B.C. Lions

Previous ranking:  5

Record:  1 – 2

The schedule was not favourable for the Lion

s to start their respective 2025 season.  At 1 – 2 thus far, they had to match up with the previous five-time Western Division Champions on two of those occasions.  They were also at a disadvantage without the services of Nathan Rourke leading the way for Leo’s offence.  Winnipeg is just like the Winnipeg that has dominated the West Division, and they came to play.

Next game:  Saturday, June 28th at Saskatchewan

7.  Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Previous ranking:  7

Re

cord:  0 – 2

Hamilton was on a bye week, and will now turn their attention when they host Montreal.  To say that it will be a tough task to snag a victory against Montreal is an understatement.  With that said, if they do not begin to win sooner rather than later, it will be another season of Tiger-Cat football unable to get into the win column early in a season.

Next game:  Friday, June 27th vs. Montr

eal

8.  Edmonton Elks

Previous ranking:  8

Record:  0 – 2

It was

the same old story for the Elks against Montreal.  On the flip side, they displayed a lot of character in the 2nd half.  Coach Mark Kilam did not sit back and made the most of it with an impressive 22 points in the 4th quarter.  The Elks need to have some consistency when scoring points.  Because, as of now, most of the points that they scored collectively have all been in the 2nd half.  They cannot afford to be behind the eight-ball every game.

Next game:  Thursday, June 26th at Winnipeg

9.  Toronto Argonauts &nbs

p;

Previous ranking:  9

Record:  0 – 3

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.  The 20

25 edition of the Argos looks out of sync.  What was once a top 1 – 3 team in the CFL in the last four years has looked quite the opposite.  What is more disturbing is the fact that they had allowed a total of 96 points to start off the 2025 season.  If this is a team that is looking to reverse its fortunes, it needs a turnaround in a hurry.   Nick Arbuckle looked a lot better against Saskatchewan as opposed to his first two outings.  But the special teams and defence were nowhere to be found.  Help is officially on the way, as Chad Kelly is quite possibly ready in week 4.  For a team that has been hit with the injury bug too soon, any help is needed.

Next game:  Sunday, June 29th at Ottawa
