Grey Cup Guarantee: Somebody 3 Peats, But Whom?

It is not very often that in the CFL that we can guarantee that somebody is going to 3 peat as a Grey Cup champion. However, in 2022 this is a solid guarantee.

Winnipeg Blue Bomber fans would love to lay claim to this after the game on Sunday. However, regardless of the outcome on Sunday November 20th a winner of 3 Grey Cups in a row will hoist the cup.

3 Time Loser?

Before we get to that, there is also a change that we see a 3 time loser in the Grey Cup. I am not sure the last time we saw someone lose three Grey Cups in a row. Nevertheless, if Winnipeg should happen to win the 109th Grey Cup then Ja’Gared Davis will hold that dubious title.

Davis is pretty much “Mr. Grey Cup”, appearing in a Grey Cup every year of his CFL career. Unfortunately he has lost more Grey Cups than he was won.

From 2016-2019 Davis played for the Calgary Stampeders. The Stampeders lost in 2016 to Ottawa, lost in 2017 to Toronto and won in 2018 against Ottawa. Davis then joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and lost to the Bombers both in 2019 & 2021 – there was no 2020 season as it was cancelled on account of COVID.

In 2022 Davis joined the Toronto Argonauts – the team that is set to face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in this year’s Grey Cup. If the Bombers 3 peat, so does Davis…but for Davis it would be all the wrong reasons.

3 Time Winner

Speaking of Toronto, they have a certain player on their team that has had a different fate than Davis. Bomber fans hope that this player does not 3 peat. While some Bomber fans may be disgruntled by his departure for the 2022 season, he is bound to make an impact this Grey Cup game. This is a player that is so obvious that I do not really need to say his name. Chances are great that you already know who I am talking about…Andrew Harris.

Yes, if Davis does not 3 peat then Harris will.

On the other hand, should the Bombers 3 peat, so will Davis, but Harris will not.

The Bombers are stacked with all-stars and there is a good reason to think they will have the result they desire.

However, while the Bombers are going to be favorites heading into the game, and likely have more fans in the stands than Toronto, this is no “gimme,” no automatic win. The CFL playoffs are 1-and-done. That is it.

Will it be the Bombers and Davis, or will it be the Argonauts and Harris that 3 peat? Let me know in the comments or on social media.
