The Tiger-Cats have signed four players to continue to add depth to their roster as they continue to evaluate talent and build their roster. The four players signed by Hamilton are:

• American wide receiver Calvin Jackson Jr.
• National offensive lineman Alex Fontana.
• National running back Keon Edwards.
• American kicker Johnathan Garibay.

Hamilton also added running back Sean Thomas-Erlington to the injured list, released two players, and suspended two additional players.

Calvin Jackson Jr. is a 5’10”, 194-pound wide receiver from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Calvin Jr. started his college football career at Independence Community College. He was featured prominently in the Netflix series Last Chance U. He finished his college football career at Washington State University from 2018 until 2021. While playing at Washington State, Calvin Jr. produced 104 receptions for 1,403 yards and ten receiving touchdowns. In 2022, the New York Jets signed Calvin Jr. as an undrafted free agent, and he also spent time with the Miami Dolphins during the 2022 season.

Alex Fontana is a 6’2″, 300-pound offensive lineman from Toronto, Ontario. Fontana is a two-year veteran of the CFL, playing seven games with the Tiger-Cats in 2022 and 18 games with the Ottawa Redblacks in 2019. Fontana played offensive center for the Tiger-Cats during the seven games he played in during the 2022 season. Hamilton released him on May 8th, 2023, but he has returned to the Tiger-Cat’s active roster.

Keon Edwards is a 5’11”, 230-pound running back from Toronto, Ontario. Edwards played U Sports football at Western University from 2019 until 2022. During his three seasons, he played in 28 games and had 373 carries for 2.653 rushing yards and 27 rushing touchdowns. He also had 19 receptions for 228 yards and one receiving touchdown. Edwards was the OUA Most Valuable Player in 2022 and helped lead Western to the Vanier Cup championship during the 2021 season.

Johnathan Garibay is a 5’11”, 217-pound kicker from Riverside, California. Garibay started his college football career at Riverside City College and finished playing college football at Texas Tech. During his time with the Red Raiders, he played in 17 games and made 23 field goals on 27 field goal attempts, with his longest field goal being 62 yards long. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys in 2022.

Injured and Suspended

During the first week of training camp, head coach Orlondo Steinauer had mentioned that running back Sean Thomas-Erlington had missed practice time with an injury. That injury has landed Thomas-Erlington on the Six-Game Injured List. Along with missing Thomas-Erlington, the Tiger-Cats announced the suspension of American defensive lineman McKinley Williams and American quarterback Jamie Newman.

Released

Hamilton has also announced that they have released National wide receiver Caleb Morin and American linebacker Jaxson Turner. Former Saskatchewan Huskies wide receiver Morin was the Tiger-Cats 8th round draft selection during the 2023 CFL Draft. Turner played college football at the University of North Dakota.
