Montreal Alouettes Release 20 Players in Final Cuts, Including RB Walter Fletcher, Sign 13 to Practice Roster

The Montreal Alouettes released 20 players during final cuts, including some names that were surprising. Running back Walter Fletcher was among those released who were the starter last season, amassing 1,446 yards combined rushing and receiving. Fletcher had signed a 2-year extension with the team in December. LB Bryce Cosby was also released, who played much of the year as a rookie starting at sam linebacker and halfback. Right tackle Josh Donovan was also released who started the majority of last season.

Released Players

RB Walter Fletcher (American) – Ball State

Fletcher, a starter in 2024, was a surprising cut. He rushed 2 times for 4 yards in the first preseason game. Last season saw Fletcher rush 141 times for 764 yards (5.4 average) and 4 touchdowns. He also caught 71 passes for 682 yards and 3 touchdowns.

RB Tanner Nelmes (National) – Wilfrid Laurier

Nelmes rushed 1 time for 4 yards in the first preseason game and caught a 12-yard pass and a 3-yard pass in the 2nd.

WR Tyjon Lindsey (American) – Oregon State

Lindsey was impressive in last year’s preseason and appeared in 1 regular-season game last season, catching a 39-yard pass. He caught 2 passes for 22 yards in the first preseason game and in the 2nd caught 6 of his 9 targets for 49 yards and a touchdown.

WR Phil Lutz (American) – Delaware

Lutz had 3 targets come his way over the preseason, but did not record a catch.

WR Jose Barbon (American) – Temple

Barbon is another receiver who was good in last year’s preseason. Last year, he played in 2 regular-season games, catching 3 passes for 17 yards and a touchdown. Barbon caught a 30-yard pass in the first preseason game and 2 33 33-yard passes in the 2nd.

WR Kaseem Ferdinand (National) – Carleton

Ferdinand had 1 reception for 14 yards in the second preseason game.

QB Jonathan Sénécal (National) – Montréal

Sénécal, a 2025 seventh-round pick and 2023 Hec Crighton Trophy winner, completed 1 of 5 passes for 7 yards and had a 12-yard rush in the first preseason game and 3 of his 6 for 24 yards in the 2nd.

OL Vincent Munlin Jr. (American) – Eastern Kentucky

Munlin was listed as a third-string left tackle in the first preseason game and 2nd string in the 2nd.

OL Hunter Poncius (American) – North Dakota State

Munlin was listed as a third-string right guard in the first preseason game and 2nd string left guard in the 2nd.

OL Josh Donovan (American) – Arizona

Donovan was not dressed in either preseason game as he was injured. He started in 17 games at right tackle last season.

DT Latrell Jean (American) – Temple

Jean had 2 tackles in the 2nd preseason game.

DT Willington Previlon (American) – Rutgers

Previlon had 1 tackle in the first preseason game and had 2 sacks in the 2nd.

LB Trezmen Marshall (American) – Alabama

Marshall had 1 tackle in the first preseason game.

LB Christian McFarland (American) – Idaho State

McFarland was tied for a team-leading 7 tackles in the 2nd preseason game.

LB Tre Thomas (American) – Idaho

Thomas dressed as a 4th string linebacker in the first preseason game and a 2nd string in the 2nd.

DB DeShawn Gaddie Jr. (American) – Mississippi

Gaddie had 1 tackle in the first preseason game and 2 in the 2nd.

DB Bryce Cosby (American) – Ball State

Cosby is a surprising release after playing much of last season as a sam linebacker and halfback and doing a pretty good job at it in the absence of Reggie Stubblefield, who was injured in week 1. He had a tackle in each preseason game, which he played both at halfback. He had 55 tackles, 2 interceptions, a sack, and 12 special teams tackles last year.

DB Darion McKenzie (American) – Merrimack

McKenzie had 1 tackle in each preseason game.

DB Jashon Prophete (American) – Northern Illinois

Prophete had 2 tackles in the 2nd preseason game.
