Montreal Alouettes Sign First Round Pick, Lwal Uguak, DL

The Montreal Alouettes signed one of their 2 first-round draft selections, defensive lineman Lwal Uguak on Tuesday.

It was a little bit surprising to see this signing come up on the CFL transactions board this early as there was some NFL interest very recently. Lwal Uguak attended 2 NFL rookie camps this month. He participated in the New York Giants camp May 5-6 and more recently with the Atlanta Falcons May 12-13.

Lwal Uguak was taken in the first round, 7th overall, and was just the second defensive lineman taken this in the CFL draft.

Uguak played 3 seasons for UConn before playing his senior year for the TCU Horned Frogs who made it to the National Championship. In his senior season, he was in a rotational role and contributed 10 tackles and a fumble recovery that he brought back 19 yards.

In 2021 at Uconn Uguak had 34 tackles, 3.5 for a loss, two pass breakups, and seven QB hurries. The program did not play in 2020 due to covid.

In 2019 Uguak had 19 tackles and 4 sacks over 12 games. In 2018 at UConn Uguak started in 10 of his 12 games and had 16 tackles and 10 for a loss.

At his pro day, Uguak ran a 4.96 40-yard dash, and 29-inch vertical, and did 18 bench reps. He measured in at 6’4, 261 pounds, and has played both defensive tackle and defensive end.
