The Montreal Alouettes announced on Tuesday the signing of American quarterback E.J. Perry. Perry played in the UFL the last 2 seasons and in the UFL the season before that. He has also had multiple NFL stints in recent years.
The Alouettes also announced the release of ex-Argos quarterback Cameron Dukes, WR Jose Barbon, and OL Ed Montilus.
Perry played in 6 games with 4 starts for the Memphis Showboats this past UFL season. He completed 55 of his 94 passes for 598 yards and 2 touchdowns with 5 interceptions and rushed 18 times for 71 yards and a touchdown. While the statistics don’t stand out, he often played in scenarios with unreliable pass protection in his appearances in the UFL.
Perry was the starter for the Michigan Panthers to begin the 2024 campaign before his season was ended early by injury in the 4th game. In 2024, he completed 55 of his 89 completions for 664 yards and 2 touchdowns with 3 interceptions. He scored frequently on the ground, rushing 23 times for 151 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Perry first appeared with the Michigan Panthers in 2023 when he started in the final game of the regular season in a must-win game to make the playoffs. He completed 12 of his 23 passes for 121 yards and rushed 10 times for 48 yards and a touchdown. In the playoff loss, he completed 23 of his 38 passes for 370 yards and 2 touchdowns with 1 interception. It was a modern USFL record for passing yards in a game.
Perry played for Brown University in 2019 and 2021 after transferring from Boston College. At Brown, he started in 20 games, completing 546 of his 862 passes (63.3%) for 5,981 yards and 45 touchdowns with 27 interceptions. He also rushed 253 times for 1,132 yards (4.47 average) and 15 touchdowns.
He has spent time on the practice squad of NFL teams over the last few years and has played in 4 NFL preseason games (2 games with Jacksonville 2022, 1 game with Houston 2023, 1 game with Jacksonville 2024). He has completed 34 passes on 62 attempts for 355 yards and a touchdown with 3 interceptions over his 4 NFL preseason games.
Perry’s ability to make plays under pressure has helped draw NFL attention over the years, despite the passing numbers not jumping off the stat sheet.
