Tiger-Cats QB Dane Evans Out 4-6 Weeks With Injury

Just as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats were finally starting to gain some momentum, the team hit a roadblock. During a 17-16 loss to the Toronto Argonauts on Friday, quarterback Dane Evans left the game in the fourth quarter due to an injury. A recent MRI didn’t look good, and although the severity of the injury is still unknown, Hamilton announced today that Evans would miss four to six weeks while recovering. In four games played this season, Evans threw for 644 yards and 5 touchdowns with only 1 interception.

The Tiger-Cats next game is on September 17th against the Calgary Stampeders. Quarterbacks Jeremiah Masoli and David Watford will be active for the matchup, and a starter should be named within the next few days. Masoli was the starter early in the season, but was benched due to his poor performance. Watford, a member of the Tiger-Cats since 2019, only has 242 career passing yards in the CFL. However, he also has six rushing touchdowns.

As for other Tiger-Cats injuries, wide receiver Brandon Banks will hopefully return to the lineup after being ruled out of the Argonauts game. Tim White, who’s currently in his first CFL season, has been Hamilton’s top option at the receiver position so far. White, who had spent time with three NFL teams from 2017 to 2020 (Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, and New Orleans Saints), is on track to be the new WR1.

Hamilton should bring in Johnny Manziel for the interm. He could do no worst then the backups.
