The Toronto Argonauts (0–2) face the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2–0) tonight, June 20, 2025, at BMO Field in a pivotal Week 3 CFL clash. The defending Grey Cup champions look to rebound from a slow start against an undefeated Riders squad riding high after wins over Edmonton and Hamilton.
Game Overview
Date and Time: Friday, June 20, 2025, 7:30 PM EDT
Location: BMO Field, Toronto, Ontario
Broadcast: TSN, CFL+ (U.S./International)
Weather Forecast: Partly cloudy, 22°C, winds W at 10–15 km/h
Head-to-Head: Since 2010, the Argos and Riders have split 28 games (14–14), with Toronto winning 3 of the last 5, averaging 39.4 points per game to Saskatchewan’s 25.8.
The 2025 Argos are struggling early, dropping games to Montreal and Calgary in their home opener last week. Saskatchewan, under head coach and former Toronto defensive coordinator Corey Mace, is 2–0, leveraging a stout defense and an efficient offense led by quarterback Trevor Harris.
Key Storylines
The Boatmen’s offense is still being captained by last year’s unlikely hero Nick Arbuckle, who has struggled mightily in place of a still recovering Chad Kelly. Toronto’s offense ranks last in the CFL in pass yards per game (208.5). Arbuckle has buckled under the pressure of having to carry an Argos offense that has struggled on the offensive line (allowing six sacks, most in the CFL after two weeks). The Boatmen will be facing a Saskatchewan defense that leads the league in sacks with seven.
On the flip side, Captaining the Riders’ offense expertly is grizzled veteran quarterback Trevor Harris. He’s led a balanced offense, averaging 24 points and 350 yards per game, and faces a Toronto defense that’s allowed 27.5 points per game.

The big story coming into Friday Night’s game was the availability of two former Argos star running backs. A.J. Ouellette and Kadeem Carey. Ouellette returns to his former stomping grounds, while the player Toronto misses greatly, Carey, won’t get a shot to exact revenge on the team that cast him aside after he was Toronto’s Most Valuable Player a year ago.

Despite Toronto’s immense struggles at quarterback, offensive line, and defensive line. A complete overhaul is not taking place, at least not for another week. Chad Kelly isn’t ready to return, nor is dynamic returner Janarion Grant.
Toronto does, however, have a few tweaks to their lineup in Week 3. With Deonta McMahon injured, Miyan Williams gets the start with camp returnee Kevin Brown backing him up. Unproven tackle Hampton Ergle is being inserted into the starting lineup on the right side. Dejon Brissett is sliding into the boundary slot, while Isaac Darkangelo moves into middle linebacker.
The move to Drakangelo is because Wynton McManis has been placed on the one-game injured list. Brissett is in for DeVaris Daniels, who is also MIA for Week 3.
CFL Week 3 Saskatchewan Roughriders @ Toronto Argonauts Prediction
The Argonauts are three-point home underdogs for a myriad of reasons, beyond injuries, and revamped areas of the team struggling mightily. Ryan Dinwiddie’s team has been fundamentally poor. They haven’t looked this bad in a long time.
Above all else, Toronto’s brain trust is paying for its sins of the off-season. The blame is squarely falling on Nic Arbuckle, who has been tasked with doing too much, with a mistakenly reshaped line, and without its best runner and receiver from last season. The defense lost too many difference makers up front, and the Argos didn’t adequately replace those players.
Toronto wasn’t ready to start a new season, and they aren’t prepared to compete against a rising Riders squad, who, unlike the Boatmen, are better than they were a year ago.
