Zach Collaros Ready to Run it Back With The Blue Bombers

WINNIPEG, MB. -The CFL 2021 Most outstanding player Zach Collaros and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension.

Collaros is a six-foot 222-pound dual-threat quarterback out of the University of Cincinnati. While at the University of Cincinnati Collaros totaled 41 games played where he would complete 61% of his passes. He also threw for a total of 6278 yards, threw 16 touchdowns, rushed for 809 yards, and scored 16 rushing touchdowns.

In 2012 Collaros declared for the 2012 draft. After going undrafted he signed a training camp deal with the Tampa Buccaneers but did not make the team.

That’s when he made his way to the CFL Signing with the Toronto Argonauts. He would appear in 22 games before he left the organization to play for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats

He would be with the Tiger-cats for the next four seasons where he had a decent career playing in 53 games and completing 66% of his passes. He would not return for his fifth season as traded to the Saskatchewan Roughriders for one season before being traded to multiple teams and finally ending up with the Blue Bombers in 2019.

Collaros will be returning for his third season with the Blue Bombers, looking to win his third consecutive Grey Cup Championships. While suited up for the Blue and Gold Collaros lead the Blue Bombers to back-to-back Grey Cup Championships for the first time since Ken Ploen did it in 1961-62.

The 2021 campaign was a memorable one for Collaros, as he helped guide his squad to a second consecutive Grey Cup championship while being named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player, the Blue Bombers Most Outstanding Player, and the West Divisions. He also was lauded as a West Division, CFL, and CFLPA All-Star.

Collaros led the CFL in passing touchdowns this past season with 20 and posted a league-best quarterback efficiency rating of 111.0, while his 3,185 passing yards ranked second. Most importantly, the club’s record was 11-2 in games Collaros started in the regular season and he is now 17-2 overall in starts for the Bombers dating back to his arrival in 2019 and including the Grey Cup victory that November.

The Roughriders should have never let go of Collaros. Samoni Lawrence giving him a concussion was no reason to send him down the road.
