CFL Grey Cup Betting Update – Are Alouettes On Course To Exorcise 2025 Demons?

The Montreal Alouettes have shown no signs of a hangover from last year’s Grey Cup heartbreak, and sportsbooks are growing increasingly confident that they will offer the perfect response to last year’s championship game defeat to Saskatchewan.

The Alouettes are sitting pretty atop the East Division with a league-best 8-1 record, and they go into Thursday night’s clash with Ottawa riding a six-game win streak that has also put them top of the betting at +190 with leading sportsbook analysed by Bets.co.za. But can they maintain this type of form for the rest of the season?

Montreal’s case starts with quarterback Davis Alexander, who is orchestrating one of the CFL’s most explosive passing attacks at this time.

Alexander currently leads the league with 3,140 passing yards, and his 18 touchdowns put him behind only two other quarterbacks through the first 11 weeks of the regular season.

Beyond that output he has also done an outstanding job of protecting the football, tossing just two interceptions so far, and that attention to detail and ball security will be huge in crunch moments.

The quarterback’s favourite target has been wide receiver Tyson Philpot, whose breakout season has become historic.

Philpot reached 1,000 receiving yards in only eight games – the fastest a Canadian receiver has ever reached the milestone – and his 1,154 yards and seven touchdown receptions put him top of both statistical categories.

He is only getting hotter too – in his last outing he hauled in 10 catches for 131 yards and three touchdowns.

Running back Travis Theis has provided some balance in the run game too – his 700 rushing yards rank third in the entire league.

He has coupled that with six rushing touchdowns and another 182 yards through the air to make himself an impact player in offensive coordinator Jason Maas’ offense, which sits second in the CFL in scoring.

That output is complimented by an Alouettes defense that only strengthens the teams’ title credentials at this time.

Montreal have given up 30-plus points in six of their nine games so far, but scoring across the league has been high this year and this unit has been able to make key stops and force key turnovers.

As a result, the 247 points they have given up ranks second in the league at this time, behind only defending champions Saskatchewan.

But will all of this translate into a championship run? The biggest threat to Montreal’s Grey Cup hopes comes from the West. Saskatchewan – the defending champions – and Edmonton will be no pushover.

The +400 Roughriders have dropped a handful of games so far, but this is largely the same group that went all the way and beat the Alouettes in last season’s championship game.

And of course, the +425 Elks remain the only team to have beaten Montreal so far this season – winning their Week 3 encounter 32-29 in overtime.

However, the underlying argument for backing Montreal is compelling. The 8-1 Alouettes boast an elite quarterback-receiver combination, coupled with a run game capable of controlling tempo, and the defense continues to make plays when it needs to.

The question no longer appears to be whether or not the Alouettes can reach the Grey Cup, but whether or not their price still offers value before the market catches up with them. We recommend jumping on Alexander & Co. now.
