With the CFL approaching the last four weeks of the regular season, Week 17 had a lot of suspense. Toronto pulled off a 30-28 win in Winnipeg. BC beat Saskatchewan 31-24 in an entertaining game. Calgary held off a desperate Ottawa team searching for their first win of the season. Calgary would win 45-31. Edmonton hosted a Hamilton team that was fighting for their lives. It took overtime for Edmonton in a 37-35 win.

Hello CFL Fans! Here are your CFL News Hub Power Rankings after Week 17.

1 – Montreal Alouettes

Record: 11-3

Previous ranking: 1

Montreal was on a bye in Week 17. Montreal will now face a Winnipeg team that is in dire need of a win.

Next game: Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, vs. Winnipeg.

2 – Edmonton Elks

Record: 11-4

Previous ranking: 2

Edmonton knew that when they played Hamilton, it could potentially go down to the wire. Facing a desperate Hamilton team hanging by a thread in the current playoff picture, Hamilton put up a big fight in Week 17.

The Edmonton offence struggled against a stingy Tiger-Cat defence. Hamilton kept the Edmonton in check. Vincent Blanchard was the majority of the offence for the Green and Gold, with a record-breaking 9 field goals made. He would score 5 field goals by halftime.

Edmonton would not score their first major until the 3:09 mark left in the 3rd quarter, when a spark in the offence ignited. Many dropped passes were costly for Edmonton during this game.

On a positive note, Edmonton won the time of possession battle, having the ball for 34:14 and 452 yards of total offence. However, they were 1 out of 4 in red zone attempts.

Next game: Edmonton are on a bye in Week 18. The Elks will be on the road to visit Hamilton in Week 19.

3 – BC Lions

Record: 8-6

Previous ranking: 3

The Lions are roaring!

After a 1-5 record, they are the hottest team in the CFL with a 7-1 record, since their last loss in Week 14 vs. Montreal (37-30).

Nathan Rourke was outstanding as usual with 375 passing yards and 4 touchdown passes. Nathan Rourke would dissect the Saskatchewan defence, feeding the ball to Justin McInnis for 111 yards, Jevon Cottoy for 96 yards and a touchdown, Stanley Berryhill for 80 yards, and Keon Hatcher Sr. for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Dannell Sankey was a monster on the field for the BC defence with a 10-tackle performance.

Next game: Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, in Toronto.

4 – Toronto Argonauts

Record: 9-6

Previous ranking: 6

With Toronto qualifying for a postseason spot, the Argos were lucky to still be within reach in their win over Winnipeg.

After a Janarion Grant touchdown after a missed extra-point attempt by Sergio Castillo, the Argonauts' offence was dry. The Argos did not obtain a first down until the 2nd quarter. Things were looking very bleak for Toronto.

The momentum shifted in Toronto’s favour when a Chad Kelly hit Tyler Kahmann on a 39-yard strike for a touchdown, making the score 21-14 Winnipeg.

The offence came to life, outscoring Winnipeg 16-10 in the 2nd half. The Boatmen defence came up huge, giving up only one touchdown in the 2nd half, and it came in the 4th quarter.

Next game: Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, vs. BC.

5 – Saskatchewan Roughriders

Record: 8-6

Previous ranking: 4

Since Week 10, the Roughriders are 3-4, including the loss to BC this week. With a logjam in the West Division, it is vital for Saskatchewan to turn things around down the stretch.

The Saskatchewan secondary was tested regularly in an attempt to prevent the aerial BC attack. Nathan Rourke was setting the tone of the game at a good pace.

Saskatchewan hit a wall in the 3rd quarter, scoring no points. Evidently, the Roughriders had to play catch-up in the 4th quarter, down 24-13 at the end of the 3rd.

It was a game where it was simply too little, too late for Saskatchewan.

Next game: Friday, October 2nd, 2026, vs. Calgary.

6 – Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Record: 7-7

Previous ranking: 5

Many Winnipeggers will see this game as a lost opportunity.

Winnipeg did a lot to beat Toronto with 224 rushing yards by Brady Oliveira (139), Bryce Perkins (81), and Dru Brown (12).

Unable to continue their lead after the 1st half, Winnipeg did not make adjustments to counter Toronto’s surge on both the offence and defence. For the most part, it was self-inflicted wounds by the Blue Bombers.

The positive for Winnipeg is that they have 4 games left to create separation among teams in the West Division for a playoff spot. More importantly, at the moment, only 1 win separates BC, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, and Calgary for 2nd place in the West Division.

Next game: Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, in Montreal.

7 – Calgary Stampeders

Record: 7-8

Previous ranking: 7

Calgary faced a tough test vs. Ottawa, with both teams having different approaches to the game. Mathematically, the Stampeders could potentially miss a playoff spot in a West Division crossover.

Calgary took nothing for granted vs. Ottawa, consistently moving the scoreboard in their favour and forcing Ottawa to chase a win.

With a Calgary 38-31 lead in the 4th quarter with 01:54 left in the game, a Vernon Adams Jr. pass to Clark Barnes sealed a 45-31 victory.

Next game: Friday, October 2nd, 2026, in Saskatchewan.

8 – Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Record: 4-11

Previous ranking: 8

The Black and Gold entered Edmonton with only one thing on their mind. – Win.

Facing a big obstacle with no time on their side, the Tiger-Cats played solid defence, halting one of the league's most potent offences for most of the game.

However, Edmonton did the same to Hamilton. It was two good defensive battles simultaneously.

Hamilton came to life at 3:55 in the 3rd quarter after a Harrison Frost-led drive capped by a touchdown pass to Kurleigh Gittens Jr., to cut the 18-16 Edmonton lead.

The momentum shifted to Hamilton, forcing the game to overtime.

It was a gusty display for Hamilton, coming up short when the game was all set and done.

Next game: Friday, October 2nd, 2026, in Ottawa.

9 - Ottawa Redblacks

Record: 0-14

Previous ranking: 9

As bad as Ottawa has played this season, they have shown a lot of character in the last three scheduled games.

The Redblacks were unable to run the ball against Calgary, electing to operate the offence via the passing game. Ottawa ran the ball for only 52 yards.

McLeod Bethel-Thompson had a great game with 417 passing yards and 2 touchdown passes, spreading the ball effectively to Justin Hardy, Ayden Eberhardt, Keelan White, Cade McDonald, and Kalil Pimpleton.

Ottawa kept the game close until Calgary exposed a defensive weakness in the 4th quarter, eventually handing Ottawa their 14th loss of the season.

Next game: Friday, October 2nd, 2026, vs. Hamilton.
