Thompson’s experience with the Stampeders extends beyond the 2022 season, having been part of the team’s training camp in 2021. Before his tenure with Calgary, he had stints with both the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Throughout his CFL career comprising 16 games, Thompson has notched a total of 24 defensive tackles and eight special teams tackles, as well as securing one fumble recovery.

An alumnus of Wilfrid Laurier University, Thompson’s football prowess was evident during his collegiate years. He earned the title of Ontario University Athletics all-star three times, a testament to his skill on the field.

This

contract extension is part of the Stampeders’ strategy to maintain a skilled roster as they prepare for the 2024 season which holds significant promise. The team has also recently extended kicker Rene Paredes for an additional year, signaling their commitment to solidifying key player positions.

Ensuring continuity in their backfield, Thompson’s presence will be valuable as Calgary looks to build on last season, including their appearance in the Western Semi-Final. With the CFL released list of 2024 pending free agents and the new schedule unveiled, teams are rapidly making moves to establish competitive rosters, and the Stampeders are no exception.

Fans and followers of the CFL can stay updated with all roster changes as teams like the Stampeders continue to shape their line-ups in preparation for the coming season. With these strategic signings, Calgary is positioning themselves as a team to watch in the race for the prestigious Grey Cup.
