The Montreal Alouettes made 2 splashes Tuesday, bolstering the defensive line as the playoffs approach. Montreal has acquired DE Julian Howsare through a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in exchange for draft position. The Alouettes also announced the signing of DT Dylan Wynn, who played for Montreal in the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
DE Julian Howsare - Clarion (6’3, 255 lbs)
Julian Howsare has accumulated 32 tackles and 4 sacks over 15 games this season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before being traded to Montreal shortly after Hamilton was eliminated from playoff contention. The Alouettes have acquired him in a trade on Tuesday in exchange for a 5th-round pick in the 2027 CFL Draft and received the Tiger-Cats ' 7th-round pick in the 2027 Draft along with Howsare. With Hamilton eliminated, they are clearly looking to move some assets at bargain prices, and the Alouttes acquired a great defensive end for pennies on the dollar.
Howsare was a CFL All-Star last season and has also been named an East Division All-Star twice in his CFL Career. Last season also saw him receive the James P. McCaffrey Trophy, the most outstanding defensive player in the East Division.
“We just acquired an all-star player who is capable of giving opposing offenses a hard time,” stated Alouettes’ General Manager Danny Maciocia. “Julian knows the league, and we are extremely pleased to have acquired his services. This type of player will be valuable to us in the coming weeks as we enter the final stretch of the season.”
Howsare played in 33 games for Hamilton over the last 2 seasons, which saw him amass 75 tackles, 17 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and an interception. He played for Calgary over the 2024 and 2023 seasons, where he played in 35 games, recording 84 tackles, 11 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.
Howsare began his CFL career with Hamilton in 2018 and played for the Ti-Cats through the 2022 season, recording 112 tackles, 21 sacks, a forced fumble, and 2 interceptions over 65 games. He has played in 133 CFL regular season games, amassing 271 tackles, 49 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, and 3 interceptions.
DT Dylan Wynn (6’1, 290 lbs)
Dylan Wynn is back in the nest where he played in 2025 and 2024, recording 38 tackles and a sack over 30 games. He signed with the Ottawa RedBlacks early in the 2026 CFL free agency but was among the final roster cuts by the RedBlacks.
Wynn played 4 seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats prior to Montreal, where he appeared in 49 games and recorded 110 tackles and 21 sacks. He began his CFL career with the Argos in 2017, where he won a Grey Cup and played in 28 games over 2 seasons and logged 63 tackles and 8 sacks.
He has 211 tackles and 30 sacks over 107 CFL regular-season games.
Wynn is a disruptive defensive tackle who provides quality run defense and presents a difficult experience for opposing interior offensive linemen to block. He was a CFL All-Star in 2019 and has been named an East Division All-Star 3 times (2017, 2019, 2021).
