The Montreal Alouettes announced on Wednesday the signing of quarterback James Morgan as well as offensive lineman Ja’chai Baker. The Alouettes also announced that Candian safety Zach Lindley has retired.
QB James Morgan – Florida International (26 y/o, 6’4, 229 lbs)
James Morgan played his first 3 seasons of collegiate ball at Bowling Green where he completed 279 of his 538 passes (52%) for 3,342 yards and 25 touchdowns with 22 interceptions over 20 games with 13 starts.
Morgan played for Florida International University in 2018 and 2019 where he played in 25 games with 24 starts. At FIU he completed 420 of his 683 passes (61%) for 5,287 yards with 40 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He was an All-Conference USA Honorable Mention in 2019 as well as the Conference-USA Newcomer of the Year in 2018.
Morgan was drafted by the New York Jets in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft 125th overall. He was waived by the Jets in late August of 2021. He spent time with NFL practice squads including the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts, and Arizona Cardinals until his release in January 2023.
Morgan played for the Pittsburgh Maulers in the USFL in 2023 appearing in 3 games with 2 starts. He completed 23 of his 48 passes (47.9%) for 210 yards with 3 interceptions.
OL Ja’chai Baker – South Alabama (26 y/o, 6’6, 310 lbs)
Ja’chai Baker played for Iowa Western CC in 2017 and 2018 after redshirting at Wyoming in 2016. He was second-team All-ICAC in 2018. He played for Southeast Missouri State in 2019 and 2020 at the FCS level. He played his final season in 2021 with South Alabama at the FBS level He was named the preseason All-Ohio Balley Conference in 2020.
Baker played his final season with South Alabama in 2021 where he started in all 11 games that he played in at left tackle.
Baker attended a mini-camp with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022 before joining the XFL in 2023 where he played 3 games for the Orlando Guardians and 1 game for the Houston Roughnecks.
