Tiger-Cats and Elks Conduct a Pre-CFL Draft Trade

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats along with the Edmonton Elks conducted a trade among the 2 clubs on the eve of the Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022 CFL Draft.

To Hamilton:

OL, Kyle Saxelid

LB, Grant McDonald

Pick # 2 (2022 CFL Global Draft)

To Edmonton:

Pick # 8 (2022 CFL Draft)

Pick # 28 (2022 CFL Draft)

Pick # 9 (2022 CFL Global Draft)

What Hamilton receives are 2 players that add depth to their current roster.  Kyle Saxelid, the product out of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas started for 19 games in his 2 seasons with the Elks.  Kyle Saxelid is also versatile on the line in which he has played both guard and tackle.  In Grant McDonald, Hamilton acquires a young Linebacker who is only 22 and made the most of his presence on special teams while with the Elks.

What Edmonton receives is more draft capital.  Going into the 2022 CFL Draft, Edmonton has now a total of 10 draft picks including the current trade with Hamilton.

In essence, this collaborative deal is a win-win situation for both respected clubs.  Hamilton adds more depth on both sides of the ball, while Edmonton adds to a rebuild in which the results of the rebuild through the draft will come to fruition.
