The Hamilton Tiger-Cats continue to maintain their five-game winning streak despite multiple injuries along their defensive line. In Week 8, the Tiger-Cats had to play hard until the very end against the BC Lions to secure a 37-33 victory, which allowed Hamilton to stay tied with the Montreal Alouettes at the top of the East division. To continue to ride their winning streak, the Tiger-Cats are being proactive and continue to sign defensive lineman to fill in for their injured players.
According to a tweet from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats X account, Hamilton has re-signed American defensive lineman Maalik Hall, and they have released National defensive lineman Kyle Samson.
HAll is a 6'3", 235-pound defensive lineman from Athens, Texas. In 2023, Hall spent the 2023 NFL season with the New York Jets' practice squad. In addition to spending time with the Jets, Hall also spent a portion of the 2024 UFL season with the Birmingham Stallions, and during his time with the Stallions, Hall played in three games and recorded one defensive tackle.
Before starting his career in professional football, Hall played college football at Southeastern Oklahoma State University from 2017 until 2022. While playing at Southeastern Oklahoma, Hall played in 43 games for the Savage Storm. During his college football career, Hall produced 151 total tackles, including 79 solo tackles, 14 quarterback sacks, and three forced fumbles.
In April of 2025, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats signed Hall, but during training camp, the Tiger-Cats released Hall. Due to multiple injuries along the Hamilton defensive line, Hall gets a second opportunity to make a positive impact on the Tiger-Cats' defensive line. If Hall can come in and show that he can make plays up front for Hamilton, he could end up being a solid contributor on the Tiger-Cats' defensive line during the 2nd half of the 2025 CFL season.
