With Week 7 completed, there were a lot of games that came down to the wire. In some cases, there were potential comebacks. Edmonton secured a 19-17 victory over BC. Montreal displayed its superior strength and was too much for Calgary in a 38-32 victory. Hamilton had a scare with Toronto for a potential comeback, as the Tiger-Cats needed luck to hang on to a 24-23 win. The week ended with Winnipeg coming back to beat Ottawa 36-34 in OT.
Hello CFL Fans! Here are your CFL News Hub Power Rankings after Week 7.

It was almost a carbon copy of what fans witnessed in Week 6, with Montreal coming out on top over Calgary with a 37-30 win. The schedule was set for both teams to square off in back-to-back games. Montreal once again beat Calgary. Davis Alexander was at his usual self, creating magic on the football field. Moreover, Davis Alexander broke the CFL record for most passes in a row without an interception, surpassing Darian Durant’s record of 323 in 2016. His pass completion to Cole Speiker cemented his place with his 324th completion. Alexander played error-free football with 25 pass completions on 32 attempts, 402 passing yards, 3 touchdown passes, and no interceptions. Travis Theis had a monster game, breaking down the Calgary defence with 123 rushing yards and a lone touchdown. Tyler Snead, Tyson Philpot, and Cole Speiker played big roles with 274 receiving yards combined.

2 – Edmonton Elks
Record: 5-1
Previous ranking: 1
It was a redemption game for Edmonton as they had a scheduled home date with BC. Unfortunately for Edmonton, the BC defence took a page from the last time they faced off in Week 5, resulting in Edmonton’s first loss of the 2026 season. Once again, the Edmonton running game was a non-factor. Justin Rankin fell victim once again, as the BC plan was to halt the heartbeat of the Edmonton offence, allowing a total of only 27 rushing yards. On the flip side, Edmonton returned the favour towards BC’s running game with similar numbers. Cody Fajardo played a good game protecting the ball. Joshua Cephus played a big role with 97 receiving yards and a lone touchdown. The big stars of the game were the Edmonton defence, who were outstanding collectively and were led by Kenneth Logan Jr, JJ Ross, Gavin Meyer, and Tyrell Ford. All of them recorded interceptions, bringing Edmonton to a league-leading 21 takeaways after week 7.

Winnipeg was looking to snag a victory in the Nation’s Capital for two reasons. One being the most important: keep within the pace in the Western Division. The second reason was personal for Dru Brown. After being traded to Winnipeg recently, bittersweet revenge was on Dru Brown’s mind. The Blue Bombers were out of sync from the beginning of the game. Ottawa was very aggressive and made a lot of big plays on defence, holding the Winnipeg offence to only 9 points heading into the 4th quarter. With Winnipeg down 26-9, it was a now-or-never mentality for Winnipeg. Dru Brown came into his own with the help of Tim White, Nic Demski, Ontaria Wilson, and Tommy Neild hauling in big passes in the 2nd half, mainly in the 4th quarter. Winnipeg got tested by a very desperate Ottawa team searching for its first victory of the season. It was not pretty, but experienced teams find ways to win.
Next game: Friday, July 24th, 2026, vs. Calgary.
Record: 2-4

With two teams having high-octane offence, it appeared to be a similar score as it was last week. Unfortunately for Calgary, they dug themselves a big hole in the 1st half when they met Montreal, down 22-0 just shy of the 1st half ending. They would respond with a field goal to end the 1 st half. On a positive note, Calgary found its zone, capitalizing on some soft defence by Montreal. At the end of the day, it was too much of a deficit to overcome for Calgary, falling 38-32. A missed catch by Eric Brooks sealed Calgary’s fate that could have been the tying touchdown in the final seconds of the game.

Hamilton had a lot of implications on the line when they faced their heated rivals from the QEW after a horrible performance last week. Tre Ford would get the nod to see if the Hamilton offence would click and restore some of their form with the absence of Bo Levi Mitchell. Tre Ford did a great job in this game with his dual–threat talents. He was able to extend drives and keep the Toronto defence on their toes. On that note, the Tiger-Cats became complacent in the 4th quarter and almost squandered a 21-7 lead. The Toronto offence was struggling but still had a heartbeat and clawed their way back into the game. Luck was on Hamilton’s side, and Toronto missed a field goal in the dying seconds to obtain the win in The Hammer.

It was an episode paying homage to the legendary Spaghetti Western movies in the late great Italian director Sergio Leone titled: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, or the Italian version: Il Buono, Il Brutto, e Il Cattivo. The Argos began their opening drive marching down the field to open the scoring on a 10-play, 51-yard drive, along with a time possession of 5:39 to go up 7-0. Unfortunately for Toronto, the offensive production would not match the pace for a large part of the game, resulting in a punt, punt, punt, and an interception. It was not until the 6:11 mark of the 3rd quarter arrived that there was a spark in some offensive production by the Double Blue. A late touchdown in the 3rd quarter, followed by another in the 4th quarter, and the Argos had an opportunity to ice the game with the always reliable and consistent kicker Lirum Hajrullahu with 00:03 left in the game. All kickers have a bad game once in their lives and miss a simple field goal. This was one of those days. This loss was not on Lirum Hajrullahu.
Next game: Saturday, July 25th, 2026, in BC.
8 – BC Lions
Record: 1-4
Previous ranking: 8
What could go wrong did go wrong for the Lions. Nathan Rourke suffered a left shoulder injury on the 2nd play of the game in the 1st quarter. Chase Brice would come into relief for the remainder of the game. Let’s give credit where credit is due. The struggles from Chase Brice were noticed instantly. However, as the game moved into the 4th quarter, he was in a zone, making some important plays for the BC offence. Take away the 4 interceptions, Chase Brice played a big role with BC scoring 10 points in the 4th quarter and completing the possible comeback. Jackson Finley had an impressive game with a 9-tackle night. Keon Hatcher Sr. shouldered the offensive load with 81 receiving yards and a lone touchdown. He had some help along the way with fellow receiver Nick Cenacle with 62 receiving yards. Unfortunately for BC, they, like Edmonton, were unable to create a solid running game.
Next game: Saturday, July 25th, 2026, vs. Toronto.
9 - Ottawa Redblacks
Record: 0-6
Previous ranking: 9
This was the best opening start to a football game for Ottawa this season. Ottawa was playing some inspiring football, only to let the game slip away. Jake Maier created a lot of chances offensively, and it was paying dividends. Unfortunately for Ottawa, they were unable to counter with a game plan to halt Winnipeg late in the 3rd quarter till the end of overtime. For Ottawa fans as of now, this defeat hurts the most. They were knocking on the door and were almost able to pull off a hard-earned victory.
Next game: Ottawa will be on a bye in Week 8. It will not be any easier to obtain their first win of the season in Week 9, when they host Montreal on Friday, July 31st, 2026.
