An Announcement About Bo Levi Mitchell’s Future In Hamilton Is Expected

The biggest question in Hamilton after the Tiger-Cats playoff loss to Montreal in the East Division Semi-Finals centered on whether or not Bo Levi Mitchell would return to Hamilton for another season. Hamilton may answer that question sooner than later, as all signs indicate that Michell has agreed to renegotiate his contract with Hamilton.

This afternoon, Mitchell was listed on the CFL Transactions website as having been removed and moved from the Tiger-Cats roster, making him a free agent. Then, he was re-added to the roster. When a CFL team deletes a player from their roster, and then that team adds the player back the same day, it usually indicates that both sides have agreed to a new contract for that player.

Why Would Bo Levi Mitchell Renegotiate His Contract

During the 2023 off-season, the prospects of Hamilton signing Bo Levi Mitchell to lead their offence dominated Tiger-Cats conversations. In January 2023, the Tiger-Cats agreed to a three-year contract with the veteran CFL quarterback that would make him one of the highest-paid players in the CFL. Unfortunately, Mitchell was injured early in the season in Toronto with a lower leg injury, and then he was injured with a fractured leg after returning to the field.

Ultimately, Mitchell played in six games for the Tiger-Cats, which limited his ability to live up to his role as the leader of the Hamilton offence. In Mitchell’s absence, backup quarterbacks Matthew Shiltz and Taylor Powell led the Tiger-Cats’ offence and helped them qualify for the 2023 playoffs. After the Tiger-Cats playoff loss in Montreal, a frustrated Mitchell did not seem confident that he would return to Hamilton for another season. Along with Mitchell’s frustration, Matthew Shiltz is due to become a free agent, and for Hamilton to have a chance to re-sign him, they would need to renegotiate Mitchell’s contract.

All Signs Point To Mitchell Returning to Hamilton

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have not officially announced that Mitchell has renegotiated his contract to stay in Hamilton. Previously, Mitchell has stated that he would like to return to the Tiger-Cats, and with today’s transaction, it appears that he has agreed to renegotiate his contract. Hamilton should soon announce this reported transaction if he has agreed to terms to extend his career with the Tiger-Cats.
