To no one’s surprise, Argos DB Jamal Peters was named top CFL performer for his once-in-a-lifetime efforts in Week 12 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The second-year CFL player intercepted three passes, scoring a game-sealing TD return in the Argonauts’ 37-20 triumph over the Ticats.
Jamal Peters’s performance against Hamilton was the kind of game that defensive backs dream about.
Peters and the Toronto Argonauts are prepping to face off with the Tiger-Cats again for the fourth time in their last five games. They are practicing at Lamport Stadium for the next couple of days. The Boatmen will head to the Hammer for the conclusion of their oddly scheduled regular season series next Monday for the 51st Labour Day Classic between the two rivals.
Not counting this year’s preseason tilt between both squads. This will be the sixth time the Argos have faced the Ticats in their last 14 games. Dating back to the end of last year’s regular season and East Final playoff game.
The East-Leading 5-5 Toronto Argonauts will try to snap a seven-game LDC losing streak against the 3-8 Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The Ticats lead the all-time series 36-13-1.
Jamal Peters will be hard-pressed to repeat what he did last Friday night at BMO. After all, individual performances like that are extremely rare. However, Peters would love to be the catalyst again in an Argos victory over their lifelong nemesis next Monday.
ARGOS DB JAMAL PETERS NAMED CFL TOP PERFORMER FOR WEEK 12
TORONTO – The Canadian Football League announced today that Argonauts DB Jamal Peters has been named Top Performer for Week 12.
Peters had a game for the ages last Friday night, intercepting three passes, returning one 67 yards for a touchdown while recording another four tackles as the Boatmen beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 37-20. Peters, who only had three interceptions in his college career at Mississippi State, and two career picks in the CFL before Friday night, is now tied for the league lead with four on the season and second in interception return yards with 84. The Argos are one of two teams (Calgary) to have three different players return interceptions for touchdowns in 2022, the others being Wynton McManis and Chris Edwards. The 25-year-old second-year Argo is third on the team in total tackles with 38 and also has a sack on the season in nine games played. The Argos sit atop the East Division standings with a big Labour Day game looming Monday, September 5, the fourth time in the past five weeks Hamilton and Toronto will square off.
WR Kurleigh Gittens Jr. and RB Andrew Harris were other Argos named Top Performers this season when they were both honored in week 7.
