The BC Lions announced on Tuesday the signing of American defensive tackle Casey Sayles through the 2027 season.

Sayles moves back tot he West Division after spending the last 3 seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, after starting in 51 regular season games and recording 116 tackles and 17 sacks. This past season, he had 30 tackles and 4 sacks over 17 games.

“Casey’s been a consistent pass rusher since he entered the Canadian Football League,” stated Lions’ General Manager Ryan Rigmaiden. “He’s the type of player you have to game-plan for, or he’ll tear you up.  Adding a talent like him to an already terrific defensive line is something we couldn’t pass on.”

Sayles entered the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2021, where he appeared in all 14 games and started in 7, recording 28 tackles and 5 sacks. He started in all 18 games in 2022, making 36 tackles and 6 sacks.

Sayles won a Grey Cup in 2021 with Winnipeg. He was named a CFL All-Star in 2023 and an East Division All-Star in 2023 and 2025.

Sayles is talented enough to make a difference on any team in the interior defensive line, who can make an impact in run-stopping and pass-rushing.
