It was another entertaining week in the Canadian Football League when week 4 came to an end. Entering week 4, Toronto, Hamilton, and Edmonton were the lone winless teams looking to break the streak to enter the win column. Wins by both Hamilton and Toronto left Edmonton as the only winless team after week 4. There were also surprises, to say the least, with games beginning slowly after the first half until games then opened up for some entertaining football. Hamilton caused a big upset over Montreal.
Here are your CFL New Hub power rankings after week 4. Â
1, Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Previous ranking:Â 2
Record:Â 3-0
Winnipeg played a game against Edmonton, where it was a textbook style of Winnipeg football. There will always be bumps along the way throughout a CFL season. Edmonton looked good enough to stay the course and cause the possible with a 23-23 tie entering the 4th quarter. With that said, Winnipeg shut the door on Edmonton and accumulated another 13 points to close out the game 36-23. Good teams find ways to win. Winnipeg played a game where the experience showed when adversity is faced in a tight game. With only 57 points allowed in three games played, Winnipeg is deserving of the top spot after week 4.
Next game:Â Thursday, July 3rd at Calgary.
2, Saskatchewan Roughriders
Previous ranking:Â 3
Record:Â 4-0
There was criticism about Saskatchewan’s record at 3-0.  A lot of naysayers were stating that they gave up too many points in their first three games and were lucky to be 3-0 to begin their respective season. That is a fair case to be made. Sometimes it takes a few games to get under your belt until the product begins to show more promise. This was the case with Saskatchewan, with their impressive 37-18 win over the Lions. Jake Maier did not look impressive under center, but what he did was the bare minimum in a positive way. Get the ball, spread the defence, and let your running game pound the ball against the B.C. It was also a case if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. A.J. Ouellette was outstanding with 139 rushing yards on 23 carries, with 1 touchdown, and an average of 6.0 yards per carry.Â
Next game: Saskatchewan is on a bye week for week 5. Their next game will be on Friday, July 11th vs. Calgary.
3, Â Montreal Alouettes
Previous ranking:Â 1
Record:Â 3-1
Every team in pro football will have a bad day. Unfortunately for Montreal, it occurred against Hamilton in week 4. In a game that began slowly with a score of 8-4 at halftime, the Montreal offence seemed ineffective against a Hamilton defence that came to play in front of their home crowd. McLeod Bethel-Thompson lacked the offensive drives, going 24 for 41 in pass completions to attempts, for 203 passing yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Due to the lack of offence, the inevitable occurred with a lot of two-and-outs forcing punts. The Montreal defence was exposed with shorter fields to protect. The Montreal defence also had too much to handle with Hamilton winning the clock management battle with 31:33.Â
Next game:Â Saturday, July 5th, vs. B.C.Â
4, Calgary Stampeders
Previous ranking:Â 5
Record:Â 2-1
Calgary was on a bye week for week 4. Factoring in the upsets along the way, and Calgary with a 2-1 record, we will slot them in a respectable position at 4th on the rankings.
Next game:Â Thursday, July 3rd, vs. Wi
nnipeg.
5, Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Previous ranking:Â 7
Record:Â 1-2
What Hamilton d
id in week 4 against Montreal was not just impressive, but also emotional. To break away from the consistency of slowly starting a season, or beginning a season winless close to the halfway point as has been in the past, they played with Steel Town pride. Post halftime, Hamilton turned it on and did not look back. They was aggressive and punctual post-halftime to make a statement vs. the best team in the CFL. Bo Levi Mitchell was impressive with spreading the offence, hitting his targets with Tim White (78 yards), Jonny Augustine (63 yards), Jevoni Robinson (35 yards), Kenny Lawler (27 yards), and Shemar Bridges (20 yards) with 20 yards or more in the receiving department.Â
Next game:Â Friday, July 4th, at Toronto.Â
6,
in Ottawa in week 4. Nick Arbuckle struggled for good parts of the game to have consistency in the offence. It was the special teams and defence that stole the show for the Double Blue. Ottawa looked good in moving the ball into scoring position deep in Toronto territory on multiple occasions. However, the play of the Toronto defence was lights out when it came to shutting the door on Ottawa. Safety Derek Slywka had the game of his life playing special trams and in his safety position. He would return a fumble for a 105–yard touchdown, along with 120–yard return from a blocked field goal resulting in another touchdown. For a player whose natural position was a wide receiver, his adjustment to transition on the defence appears to be flawless.
Next game:Â Friday, July 4th, vs. Hamilton.Â
The schedule has not been kind to the Lions to open their 2025 CFL season. After their week 1 win over Edmonton, they had played Winnipeg back–to–back, along with a week 4 showdown in Saskatchewan. It has now led to 3 losses in a row. With Nathan Rourke still absent post-week 2, B.C. needs to come together during this current dry spell. They were outmatched by a tough Saskatchewan defence that caused a lot of destruction and made it a tough day for Jeremiah Masoli. He was pressured regularly which resulted in 3 interceptions.
otball, bad luck just haunts you. Dustin Crum did a great job overall against Toronto for a good part of the game. He would elude the rush on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, when attempting to strike to put points off the board, The Toronto defence shut it down resulting in points going the opposite way.Â
