As reported by TSN, Kenny Lawler’s season-ending surgery was a success.
The Pomona, California native who was previously with the Winnipeg Bluebombers from 2019 and 2021, signed with the Edmonton Elks this past off-season to join the green and gold faithful.
And Kenny Lawler’s presence was felt during the 2022 season thus far minus the man games missed due to injury.
His first bad break would occur when reported on August 31st, 2022 in which we would be out for 3 weeks with a high ankle sprain. Kenny Lawler would miss games in week 13, week 14, and week 15.
In his first game back from being cleared from his high ankle sprain for week 17 (week 16 bye week) on Saturday, October 1st vs the Montreal Alouettes, he would suffer another blow which would lead to a season-ending injury. Kenny Lawler being Kenny Lawler in trying to make any play possible for the Elks, caught a pass in the 2nd quarter landing on his right shoulder. It appeared that he was not able to continue playing as he automatically was nursing his right shoulder which he appeared to show a great deal of discomfort. He would head to the locker room and not return.
It was later revealed by the Edmonton Sun that the current injury revealed in week 17, was that Kenny Lawler would undergo season-ending surgery.
With the recent reports that the surgery was successful, this is great news for Kenny Lawler as he will have a lot of time to heal and get ready for the 2023 CFL season. Hopefully, he signs a contract extension with the Edmonton Elks as he is a valuable asset for the club in the current rebuild.
There is no doubt that this hurts the Edmonton Elks chances in trying to obtain another victory in 2022. With 3 games remaining on the 2022 schedule, the Elks will be at Winnipeg for week 18, at home vs Toronto for week 19, and at BC for week 20 to conclude their 2022 season. With the lack of team offence during this season, and losing your most productive offensive weapon, it will be a big obstacle to overcome if the Edmonton Elks would earn another victory in 2022.
