Most people are familiar with a “Game Ball.” It goes to a player who played exemplary football; someone who went above and beyond. Fewer, are familiar with the “Jock,” an award that often goes to an idiotic play.
Game Ball So, who do you like? Here is how the individual players preformed.
I am really tempted to give the Game Ball to Oliveira and/or the offensive line! Brady is finding his stride and that will be crucial when the playoffs come, especially in colder weather games. Yet, the Bomber’s defense made a case for themselves by only allowing 10 points! Oh, yah…and no points in the second half.

ow about that Terry Wilson guy? When Streveler went down; and out for the season, we had no clue who would take his place. They brought in a bunch of quarterbacks, but it was unclear who would get the nod. Yet, Terry Wilson was very good on his two short yardage plays for touchdowns! I think they found their guy.
However, I am going to go off script a bit. The Game Ball will go to a guy who is not flashy; and a position that is only mentioned when the player messes up…the punter. And I do not want to hear it from anyone that says, ‘A kicker has one job…just to kick.’ Guess what? If it were so simple, everyone would be a kicker. But Sheahan helped control the field position with an average of 45.3 yards, and a long of 57 yards. We are coming close to playoff time, and you need your punter to do well in November for your team to do well.
For a very well executed punting game, Sheahan, you get my Game Ball.

Usually I like to have fun with this one, or even go to the other team to hand out this award. But today, I am sticking on the Bomber’s side of the ball.
Not that this player did anything particularly idiotic, but other than securing the ball – which is absolutely huge – part of his play is missing. While the Bombers seem intent on sticking with him; and I am fine with that, the Bombers need to get more out of their return game. (For those of you more astute than I am, let me know if I am being to harsh…after all it is a team sport).

ut even as I watch the games with my 9 year old son (and he can call the penalties, he gets the game at a high level) he will say to me, “Dad, he should have gone there instead, right?”
If you have not guessed who gets the award this week – and I really hate to do this – it is Whitehead. The returns have not been substantial. The field flipping has not occurred. Winnipeg needs to see more out of the return game. That can be a playoff game breaker. I have no doubt that Whitehead can do it…it simply is not happening. His punt return average was 8.2; Hamilton is not that good at downfield pursuit. His kickoff average was an abysmal 19 yards. Yikes!
If that is too harsh, let me know! Better yet, let me know who would have received your Game Ball and Jock after watching the highlight videos!
