The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced they had signed four American defensive players to their 2023 roster. Defensive back Kenneth George Jr., linebacker Jaxson Turner, defensive linemen Nyles Pinckney, and defensive lineman TJ Johnson are the newest additions to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Each of these defenders has demonstrated the ability to help improve the overall depth of the Tiger-Cats roster as the 2023 season approaches.
Let’s look at what these players have done before being signed by the Tiger-Cats.
Defensive back Kenneth George Jr. is a 6’0″, 194-pound defensive back from Lafayette, Louisiana. George Jr. played college football for four seasons at the University of Tennessee. While playing at Tennessee, he played in 33 games and accumulated 52 tackles, one tackle for loss, recovered one fumble, deflected ten passes, and had one interception. After college, George Jr. signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent. Additionally, he has experience playing for the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL.
Linebacker Jaxson Turner is a 6’2″, 225-pound native of Esko, Minnesota. The 25-year-old linebacker played college football at the University of North Dakota from 2017 until 2021. During his five seasons at North Dakota, he played in 49 games and produced 202 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, 22 sacks, forced six fumbles, one fumble recovery, eight pass breakups, and one interception.
Defensive lineman Nyles Pinckney is a 6’5″, 205-pound native of Beaufort, South Carolina. He started his college football career at Clemson University from 2017 until 2020. During those four seasons, Pinckney played in 55 games and produced 81 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble, and recovered three fumbles. In 2021, he finished his college career at the University of Minnesota, where he had 29 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and forced one fumble. In 2022, he participated in the New Orleans Saints rookie mini-camp.
Defensive lineman TJ Johnson is a 6’5″, 205-pound native of Southfield, Michigan. He started his college football career at Independence Community College and finished his college career at Marshall University. Johnson spent three seasons at Marshall from 2019 until 2021. During those three seasons, he produced 53 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, three pass deflections, and one forced fumble. Previously, he has spent time with the New Orleans Breakers of the USFL.
