It is difficult to say that a team that went 7-11 and missed the CFL playoffs had a successful season on offense. Still, for the Tiger-Cats, the 2024 season was a big year on the offensive side of the ball, with veteran quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell leading the way. Hamilton averaged 27.5 points per game. That performance was good enough to have scored the second-most points of offense in the CFL.
That success on the offensive side of the ball was a product of outstanding performances by Hamilton’s fleet of explosive wide receivers, including Tim White, Steven Dunbar Jr., Shemar Bridges, and Kiondre Smith. Even with the success in the Tiger-Cat’s passing game, Hamilton is not in any position to feel satisfied with their performance. A sign that the Tiger-Cats are striving for more on the offensive side of the ball is Hamilton’s desire to sign more potential offensive playmakers. According to the CFL Transactions list, the latest addition to the Tiger-Cat’s arsenal of weapons is American wide receiver Trea Shropshire.
Shropshire is a 6’3″, 195-pound wide receiver from Zachary, Louisiana. The wide receiver comes to Hamilton from the University of Alabama at Birmingham via Blinn Junior College. For Shropshire, signing with Hamilton will be his first opportunity to demonstrate his ability to make plays in the CFL.
The young wide receiver’s college football career started at Blinn Junior College in 2018. During the 2018 and 2019 NJCAA seasons, Shropshire played in 20 games, catching 25 passes for 570 yards and eight touchdowns. Shropshire then transferred to UAB for the 2020 season, playing in three seasons for the Blazers. While at UAB, Shropshire played in 34 games, catching 82 passes for 1,937 yards and 15 touchdowns.
