While the rest of us are making our way back home from the long weekend, or finishing up those last chores we wanted to accomplish, the Blue Bombers held practice on Monday and had some interesting developments.
I was going to prepare an article on how Dillion Mitchell was about to be handed an apple and a road map. After signing a large off-season bonus to attract him to Winnipeg, Mitchell has yet to crack the roster and was even paced on the practice roster. I spoke more about Mitchell and his stats here. Yet, on Monday August 4th, Mitchell is taking first team reps.
So what in the world is going on with the Bombers?
*Collaros might be back this week for the Bombers, and that would not be a bad thing as we saw which Streveler showed up. It will only be bad if they rush Collaros back into action too soon.
*Well, it looks like Parker is going to be out for a while; if not the whole season.
*At first glance it looked like Schoen would be out for a while longer with Demski wearing his jersey. But at least Schoen is on the field running. However, since he is not practicing with the team, I do not expect that he will be back this week...but he is likely closer to coming back.
*Peyton Logan may see some spot duty, but I am not sure if he gets all the returns after Vaval ran back 2 for touchdowns.
*Stanely Bryant may draw in next game against Calgary, but we will have to see how the week prgresses.
So what is going on with the Bombers? The answer is simple but not detailed. They are getting some guys healthy; and they may have some options for the first time in a while. As to the question about what is going on with Mitchell? I am not sure that we will ever really know the answer. The Bombers continued to argue that Mitchell could only play in the position that Wheatfall played and that is why Mitchell did not crack the roster. But that seemed, felt, and sounded to be lacking in explanation. Maybe Mitchell is the beneficiary of injury and the Bombers now must play him. It will be very interesting to see where the Bombers put Mitchell in the lineup if h cracks the roster this week. And if he does not crack the roster, then even more questions will be asked as he was practicing on Monday.
All in all, Monday's practice leaves us with little answers and more questions.
