Montreal is 2-1 ATS this season with all three games going over — the Alouettes have been in shootouts all year. Ottawa is 0-1 ATS with a 1-1 over/under split, and they haven't been able to keep up with anyone yet.

Overview

Montreal got punched in the mouth in Edmonton last week, falling 29-32 in overtime to the undefeated Elks after holding a lead late. That sting is fresh. Home games at Percival Molson have a way of focusing this group, and with the East Division standings tightening — Toronto and Hamilton both sitting at 2-1 as well — the Alouettes can't afford to slip up against a team they should handle. A bounce-back win keeps them firmly in the division race. A loss would be a real problem.

Ottawa, meanwhile, is still looking for its first win under head coach Ryan Dinwiddie. The Redblacks were outscored 73-45 through two games, getting handled by Edmonton in Week 1 and then blown out 44-24 by Toronto in Week 3. Dinwiddie himself admitted after the opener that self-inflicted wounds — penalties, blown assignments, missed opportunities — were "too many to overcome." That hasn't changed much. Now they head into a loud road environment shorthanded, with multiple key contributors ruled out for Sunday. The talent gap between these two teams is real, and the injury report only makes it wider.

Montreal has the better quarterback, the better receiving corps, the home crowd, and the motivation. The edge here is decisively with the Alouettes. The one legitimate concern is Ottawa's pass rush — Aidan John has been their most disruptive defender — and whether a banged-up Montreal receiving group can stay healthy through four quarters. But with league-leading receiver Tyson Philpot listed as available despite a foot issue, Montreal's offense should have enough firepower to put this one away.

Key Players

  • Davis Alexander (Montreal Alouettes, QB) — The third-ranked passer in the CFL with 1,133 yards, 5 TDs, and zero interceptions through three games; his ball security has been elite.
  • Tyson Philpot (Montreal Alouettes, WR) — The league's top receiver with 24 catches for 389 yards and 3 TDs; listed available despite a foot injury and will be a game-time monitor, but his presence alone changes how defenses play Montreal.
  • Tyler Snead (Montreal Alouettes, WR) — Fourth in the CFL with 19 receptions for 305 yards and 2 TDs; becomes the clear go-to option if Philpot is limited.
  • Travis Theis (Montreal Alouettes, RB) — Montreal's rushing leader; with Shomari Lawrence moved to the practice roster, Theis takes on added importance in the ground game alongside Stevie Scott III, who returns from injury.
  • Jake Maier (Ottawa Redblacks, QB) — Ottawa's starter faces a stiff Montreal pass defense; with Eugene Lewis ruled out and the receiving corps thinned by injuries, his night could be a long one.

Keys to the Game

  • Alexander must protect the football and attack early — Ottawa's secondary will be shorthanded without Alonzo Addae and Lucas Cormier, and the Alouettes need to exploit those gaps from the first drive.
  • Montreal's defensive front must get pressure on Maier and limit Daniel Adeboboye on the ground, keeping Ottawa's offense one-dimensional and manageable.
  • Special teams will matter — Mario Alford against Ottawa's Kalil Pimpleton in the return game is a genuine chess match, and field position could be the difference in a tight first half.

Score Prediction

Montreal Alouettes 33 — Ottawa Redblacks 21. The market-implied score of 31-24 feels about right as a floor for Montreal, but Ottawa's depleted secondary — missing Addae and Cormier — gives Alexander and Philpot too many opportunities to exploit. Montreal covers at home, the over is very much in play, and the Alouettes get the bounce-back win they need to stay in step with Toronto and Hamilton in the East.
