Montreal Alouettes Release Return Specialist Chandler Worthy

The Montreal Alouettes have released return specialist Chandler Worthy. Worthy was a CFL East Division All-Star in 2022.

Chandler Worthy – Troy (30 y/o, 5’8, 177)

Chandler Worthy played in 14 games for Montreal last season recording 10 catches for 92 yards. He has been Montreal’s main returner the last 2 seasons until he missed the last 4 regular season games and the playoffs due to injury after which point James Letcher Jr. took over. Worthy returned 51 punts averaging 10 yards per return and 48 kickoffs averaging 23.6 yards per return. Both Chandler Worthy and James LEtcher Jr. had a punt return touchdown last season.

Montreal was set to have a decision to make on who they would want as the primary returner to begin the season. The Alouettes have elected to make the decision before camp. Per 3DownNation, Worthy was set to make $140,000 in 2024 plus up to $24,000 in incentives.

Worthy played for Troy University from 2011 to 2014. He had 1,767 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns coming out of college in addition to being a solid returner. He had 2 kick return touchdowns in his senior year.

Worthy signed as an undrafted free agent with the Houston Texans in 2015 and appeared in 3 games recording 3 catches for 14 yards and returning a kickoff for 27 yards, and 3 punts for 9 yards total.

He later with the Toronto Argonauts where he spent 2017 through 2021 appearing in 16 regular season games. Worthy played in 29 regular season games for the Alouettes over the last 2 seasons.

Worthy has played in 45 CFL regular season games. He has returned 138 kickoffs for an average of 22.87 yards per return with 2 touchdowns that both came in 2022. He returned 163 punts for an average of 10 yards per punt with 1 touchdown which occurred last season. He also has 43 receptions for 461 yards and 4 touchdowns.
