
The Montreal Alouettes announced on Monday the signing of 3 players: quarterbacks Anthony Brown and Dresser Winn, and linebacker Donovan Manuel. Each of these 3 CFL newcomers are 2-season contracts.
QB Anthony Brown – Oregon/Boston College (6’1, 217 lbs)
Anthony Brown moves to Montreal, bringing experience from some big college programs and time in the NFL and UFL. He played most recently in the UFL in 2025 with Houston, where he completed 27 of his 56 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown with 3 interceptions and rushed 7 times for 61 yards.
Brown’s professional career began with the Baltimore Ravens, where he signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He played in 2 games with 1 start in 2022 and completed 22 of his 49 passes for 302 yards with 2 interceptions. He was released from the practice squad in early September of 2023 by Baltimore and spent some time with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024. He had brief stints with Buffalo in 2024 and 2025 and Arizona in 2024.
Brown played in 8 NFL preseason games with Baltimore. He played in 3 games with Baltimore in 2022, completing 35 of his 47 passes for 464 yards and 3 touchdowns with 1 interception. In 2023, he played in 3 games with Baltimore, completing 21 of his 39 passes for 218 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
In 2024, he played in a preseason game with Las Vegas, completing 1 pass for 24 yards on 3 attempts. He also played a game with Buffalo, completing 11 of his 12 passes for 102 yards.
Brown began his collegiate career with Boston College, where he played from 2016 through 2018, starting in 22 games after redshirting in 2016. He completed 359 of his 650 passes for 4,605 yards and 40 touchdowns with 19 interceptions with the program. He also rushed 127 times for 430 yards and 4 touchdowns.
He played for Oregon in 2020 and 2021. He started in 14 games in 2021, completing 250 of his 390 passes for 2,989 yards and 18 touchdowns with 7 interceptions. He added 658 rushing yards on 151 rushes and 9 touchdowns that season.
QB Dresser Winn – Tennessee-Martin (6’3, 215 lbs)
Dresser Winn is another quarterback who played last year in the UFL. Winn played in 5 games with 4 starts with the Memphis Showboats, completing 80 of his 138 passes for 834 yards and 3 touchdowns with 4 interceptions.
Winn played his collegiate ball for The University of Tennessee at Martin from 2017 to 2022, where he played in 33 games with 25 starts, completing 492 of his 814 passes for 5,798 yards and 37 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. In 2022, he was named to the All-OVC Second Team and named Phil Steele All-Conference Team.
Winn signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and was waived in late August. He spent time with the Edmonton Elks in September and October of 2023 on the practice squad. A couple of weeks after being released by Edmonton, he was signed to the LA Rams’ practice squad and was later waived in August of 2024. He again signed with the Rams in 2025 after participating in the UFL and was waived that August.
Winn has played in 4 preseason games with the Rams, completing 27 of his 44 passes for 283 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions.
LB Donovan Manuel – Florida International (6’1, 230 lbs)
Donovan Manuel played for East Tennessee State from 2018 through 2021, where he played in 34 games with 29 starts. He recorded 232 total tackles (118 solo, 114 assisted), 7.5 sacks, and 3 interceptions with the program.
Manuel played for Florida International in 2022 and 2023, playing in 24 games with 23 starts. He recorded 218 total tackles (116 solo, 102 assisted), 24 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, 6 passes defended, 5 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery with the program.
He signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in May of 2024 but was waived the following week.
