Montreal Alouettes kick-returner Chandler Worthy has extra motivation heading into this weekend’s East Final matchup with the rival Toronto Argonauts. Worthy is a former Argo and was cut by the Argos during this year’s training camp.
Worthy was picked up by the Alouettes after being cut and went on to have a successful campaign in Montreal. Worthy ran for 547 yards as a punt returner & 1220 yards as a kickoff returner. He also recorded 2 kickoff return touchdowns. Worthy proved himself to be an electrifying part of the Alouettes special teams in 2022. While the Argos might not have seen much value in Worthy the Alouettes clearly did and were rewarded by giving him another shot at the CFL.
The East Final will also be a revenge game of sorts for Alouettes quarterback Trevor Harris. Harris played the first 4 years of his CFL career with the Argos and helped lead the Argos to the playoffs in 2015 before the Argos relegated Harris to the bench in favour of the returning Ricky Ray.
Harris then bolted from Toronto for Ottawa and preceded to help Ottawa win its first Grey Cup since returning to the CFL. Harris has moved on from his time with the Argos but surely defeating the Argos on the Alouettes path to the Grey Cup would be the cherry on top for Harris.
Will Worthy or Harris end up making the larger impact in the East Final for the Alouettes? One would think it should be Harris but Worthy’s speed on returns has made him a key piece to the Alouettes success. Worthy should be ready to have a breakout performance against the team that didn’t think he deserved a roster spot.
