B.J. Emmons has returned to the Saskatchewan Roughriders ahead of the 2023 CFL free agency period. Emmons originally signed with the Roughriders back in October and was immediately placed on the practice squad before the Riders released him on Halloween Day, 2022.
The North Carolina local played his college football at the University of Alabama and Hutchinson Community College before transferring to Florida Atlantic University and playing his final two college years for the Florida Atlantic Owls (2019 & 2020).
The 25-year-old RB had brief stints in the NFL from 2021 – 2022 with the Seattle Seahawks, Las Vegas Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. He did not play in any meaningful games in the NFL besides a handful of preseason games with the Raiders in 2021.
Emmons was also drafted in the USFL’s inaugural draft in 2022 by the Tampa Bay Bandits. Emmons managed 244 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown with the USFL’s Bandits prior to leaving the USFL in hopes of making the Houston Texans roster in the summer of 2022.
Hopefully Emmons second go-around with the Roughriders leads to meaningful CFL games for the young running back.
