Hard-charging Elks running back, James Wilder Jr. will be back in Green and Gold for the 2022 season. As announced by the Edmonton Elks today, Wilder has signed a one-year contract extension. He will be reporting to training camp in May, fully vaccinated and fully ready to continue his dominance on the gridiron. The Elks MOP for 2021 is returning with an elevated amount of energy and positivity.
In twelve games with the Elks in 2021, Wilder ran for 770 yards and 2 touchdowns. He caught 28 passes for 226 yards and 1 touchdown. Early in the 2021 campaign, he was the league’s leading rusher, but injuries mid-season limited his play. The 29-year-old, 6’1″ 232 lb Florida State product enters his fifth year in the CFL. The former CFL Rookie of the Year in 2017, will bring back his bruising speed and determination to a revamped Elks offence.
During the media availability today, Wilder remarked how he is “ready to get some wins for the fans of Edmonton.” He appeared to be very excited to be playing for GM/HC Chris Jones. It was one of the main factors that brought him back for another season.
New President & CEO – Victor Cui
Edmonton born and raised, Victor Cui will be formally announced tomorrow as the next President and CEO of the Elks. The new President brings a wealth of sporting experience and he has a special place in his heart for the Edmonton Elks. Fans are excited to have a local success story take the reigns of the CFL’s flagship franchise. Fans have been voicing their concerns about the state of the organization and Victor Cui appears to be a welcomed leader to build back this proud franchise.
