As the Hamilton Tiger-Cats prepare for their Week 6 game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Hamilton is struggling to find answers at the quarterback position with starting quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell out indefinitely. Earlier this week, the Tiger-Cats signed quarterback Jarret Doege to join the roster with backup quarterbacks Tre Ford and Jake Dolegala. In addition, Tiger-Cats head coach Scott Milanovich announced that Jake Dolegala will start the game against the Roughriders after failing to complete a pass last week against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

However, the real answer at quarterback for the Tiger-Cats for the rest of the 2026 season is still not clear. Recently, there have been rumors that the Tiger-Cats have opened negotiations with former backup quarterback Harrison Frost, who played for the Saint Louis Battlehawks at the start of the 2026 UFL season. The report of Hamilton talking to Frost was first announced by UFL Insider James Larsen.

Frost was granted his release from the #UFL, in order to return to Hamilton, who just lost QB Bo Levi Mitchell to injury.

During the 2026 UFL season, Harrison Frost played in the first four games of the season for the Saint Louis Battlehawks. While playing for Saint Louis, Frost completed 57 out of 107 pass attempts for 719 yards, 7 touchdown, and 6 interceptions. Before playing for the Battlehawks in the UFL, Frost spent the 2024 and 2025 CFL seasons as a backup quarterback with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. During his first stint in Hamilton, Frost played in 17 games, completing 8 out of 12 passes for 95 yards and 1 touchdown.

While Frost does not have significantly more experience than Ford or Dolegala, what he does have is direct experience and knowledge of Milanovich's offensive scheme. In addition, Frost has a pre-existing relationship with the Hamilton wide receivers which is the driving force of the Tiger-Cats offensive attack. If Dolegala makes a big improvement from last week then he could be in the driver seat for leading the Hamilton offensive passing attack, but if he continues to struggle this could become a mid-season quarterback competition between Dolegala, Ford, Doege, and Frost.

Wide Receiver Kiondre Smith Gets Rewarded with a Contract Extension

During the first five weeks of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 2026 season, the Tiger-Cats have had the best start to a season that they have had since 2019. While the injury to quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell has been the headline grabber this week out of Hamilton, the wide receiver unit is the key to any success the Tiger-Cats achieve without Mitchell being present. As a result, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have decided to reward Canadian wide receiver Kiondre Smith for his early-season success with a 1-year contract extension.

During the first four games of the 2026 season, Smith has caught 23 passes for 329 yards and has scored 3 touchdowns. For the 2026 season, Smith is getting paid $185,000 in hard money, but his new contract extension keeps Smith in Hamilton through the 2027 season. In addition, in 2027, Smith will receive $272,500 in hard money, and he has the potential to receive up to $5,500 in incentives and bonuses for being selected as an All-Star, as well as other performance bonuses. The new maximum value for Smith will be $278,000 if he continues to play up to the Tiger-Cats' expectations.
