Coming into Week 5 of the 2026 CFL season, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have an opportunity to continue to build momentum toward a groundbreaking championship season. Historically, the Tiger-Cats are well-prepared when coming off a bye week, and in Week 5, they have a chance to face a Winnipeg Blue Bombers team that has been frustrated with their 1-2 start to the season. In Week 2 of the season, Hamilton handed the Blue Bombers a 37-27 loss at Princess Auto Stadium, and this week they can sweep the Blue Bombers for the season.

The difficult part of this Week 5 matchup will be for the Tiger-Cats to quickly get back into a rhythm on the offensive side of the ball. To start the 2026 season, the Tiger-Cats struggled to find the consistency they need to win games each week, leading to a Week 1 loss to the Montreal Alouettes. Since that game, the Tiger-Cats have been showing improved play on offense, and now they need to keep that going despite having last week off.

Bo Levi Mitchell has to Right Back into the Groove in the Passing Game

During the Tiger-Cats' last two games, quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell has been outstanding at spreading the ball around the field rather than simply trying to get the ball to wide receiver Kenny Lawler. The ability to distribute the ball to the Tiger-Cats' other weapons at wide receiver has led to, and will continue to lead to, better opportunities for Lawler. It is critical, and Mitchell continues to get the ball to whoever is open rather than forcing it, which has been his weakness in his rare poor performances.

Tiger-Cats Need to Capitalize with Fresh Legs Against Winnipeg

In addition to staying in rhythm with the passing game, the Tiger-Cats need to be able to establish the running game with running back Larry Rountree III, which will allow them to take advantage of their fresh legs compared to a Winnipeg team that has not had the advantage of having a chance to rest during a bye week. To attack this potential liability for the Blue Bombers, Hamilton needs to put together extended drives that will test the endurance of the Blue Bombers' defensive front seven. By grinding out first downs, the Tiger-Cats wear down the Blue Bombers, and that will help the Tiger-Cats' offensive line with pass protection for quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell.

Hamilton's Defensive Front Seven Needs to make an Impact on Collaros

Along with getting back in stride offensively, the Tiger-Cats need to come out of their bye week with an improved effort along their defensive front seven. Specifically, the Tiger-Cats' defensive line needs to be ready to contain and pressure the Blue Bombers' quarterback, Zach Collaros. In the first game against Winnipeg in Week 2, the front seven did a solid job of containing the Blue Bombers running game, but they did not generate as much pressure as they have in the past. This week, the Tiger-Cats pass rushers need to come out ready to keep Collaros off balance and force him into bad throws that lead to turnovers.
