Coming into Week 5 of the 2026 season, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats are looking to fire up their offense, featuring an explosive passing attack, after a week off in Week 4. The engine that drives Hamilton's passing attack is quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, and wide receivers Kenny Lawler, Kiondre Smith, and Keric Wheatfall. However, the key to sustaining success during a long 21-week CFL season is to continually work to maximize their depth, especially at a high-value position like wide receiver for the Tiger-Cats.

According to a press release by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the newest addition to the Tiger-Cats fleet of wide receivers is American wide receiver Blayne Taylor.

The 6'4", 212-pound Taylor is a native of Saginaw, Texas, and signing with the Tiger-Cats is another chance to show that he can make an impact in Hamilton. Taylor was originally signed by the Tiger-Cats in December 2025, but he was cut from the Tiger-Cats roster during training camp. Before coming to the CFL, Taylor spent time with the Indianapolis Colts in 2025 as an undrafted free agent.

Taylor played college football for the Abilene Christian University Wildcats from 2022 until 2024. During his time with the Wildcats, Taylor played in 36 games, recording 133 receptions for 2,026 yards and 17 touchdowns. The biggest year for Taylor with Abilene Christian was his senior season, where he caught 73 passes for 1,117 yards and 8 touchdowns.

With a prototypical frame for a boundary-side wide receiver and an outstanding catch radius, Taylor could become a consistent possession receiver for the Tiger-Cats and help Hamilton continue to move the chains to extend drives. Despite his large frame, he is explosive, especially when establishing the stems of his routes, which helps him create separation in coverage. That ability makes Taylor a valuable weapon in the red zone, but he does tend to struggle getting off tight press coverage, and he needs to develop more consistency as a route runner.
