WINNIPEG, MB., January 3, 2022
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced today that they have agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with defensive back Nick Hallett. Hallett, who was set to be a free agent next month will now be returning for his third season with the Blue Bombers.
The Canadian native who is standing at 5’11, 197 pounds was drafted in the seventh round, 61 overall pick by the Blue Bombers in the 2019 Canadian Football League Draft.
In his rookie year, Hallett made a name for himself in the Canadian Football League on special teams playing in 18 of 23 games where he recorded 13 tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recover.
In his second year, Hallett continued to be a force on special teams playing in 14 games where he logged 16 tackles and one forced fumble. Hallett also played snaps on defense where he made seven tackles en route to his second Canadian Football League Championship in back-to-back years.
In two seasons, Hallett has become one of the CFL’s best special-teams players. In 2021 he tied for the fourth-highest total tackles (16) in the league. Over his two years with the Bombers, only all-time special-teams tackle leader Mike Miller – with 50 — has registered more special-teams tackles than Hallett.
“This is the only team I wanted to be with,” Hallett told bluebombers.com from London, Ont. “I mean, look at my first two years of professional football. It really couldn’t have gone any better. Not only do I have my real brother (Noah) on the team with me, but I have a bunch of other brothers that I’ve grown to love and create connections with, so this is definitely the locker room I want to be a part of. That’s the only taste I have in my mouth, so I want to go get another one.”
