CFL Chronicles: Memorable Moments in Recent Canadian Football History

Canadian football continues to be a source of excitement and unforgettable memories for fans. The CFL consistently delivers big games, legendary performances, and historic achievements that make the league special.

Over the last five years, several moments have stood out, further cementing the CFL’s place in the hearts of sports enthusiasts. Here is a closer look at some of these defining events.

Brady Oliveira’s Historic Season

The 2024 CFL awards season celebrated some incredible achievements, with Brady Oliveira of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers stealing the spotlight. He was named both the Most Outstanding Player and the Most Outstanding Canadian, an honor achieved by only a few players in league history.

For Oliveira, the dual recognition was more than just an individual accomplishment as it was a moment that highlighted his place among the CFL’s greatest Canadian athletes.

The 2024 season however was not just about the awards season as it was filled with games that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Fans followed the season closely, often adding to their enjoyment by betting on their favorite teams. Sportsbooks made it possible to not only place wagers but also track scores and key stats throughout the games.

The Unforgettable 2021 Western Semi-Final

One of the most unforgettable games in recent CFL history was the 2021 Western Semi-Final between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Calgary Stampeders.

Saskatchewan came out on top with a close 33-30 overtime victory, but the journey to that result is what made the game so special.

This contest was defined by its chaos, with multiple interceptions highlighting the relentless intensity of both defenses. However, overtime took the excitement to another level.

The Roughriders stayed strong and focused to win the game in front of their cheering home crowd. It wasn’t just a big win for Saskatchewan, as it showed what makes CFL football so special.

This game remains a defining moment from the past five years, celebrated for its ability to capture the unpredictable nature of playoff football.

Andrew Harris Leads the Way in the 2019 Grey Cup

One of the biggest moments in recent CFL history was Andrew Harris’s incredible performance in the 107th Grey Cup.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers had been waiting almost 30 years to win a championship, so their 33-12 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats was a huge moment for the team and its fans. Harris played a key role in making it happen.

Harris played a key role in the win, dominating on the field and earning both the Grey Cup MVP and the Most Valuable Canadian awards.

Adding to the significance of the moment was the fact that the Tiger-Cats were also facing a long championship drought, with their last title coming in 1999 and the last Grey Cup back in 1990.

For Winnipeg fans, that made the win even more unforgettable. Harris’s contribution was not just about his personal success, it was about bringing the team and its supporters a moment they had been waiting decades to celebrate.
