In Week 2 of the 2026 CFL season, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (0-1) will go on the road to face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1-0) in Winnipeg. Both teams had to fight down to the wire in Week 1; the Tiger-Cats made key mistakes in the second half against the Montreal Alouettes, leading to a loss for their home opener. On the other hand, the Blue Bombers were able to hang onto a two-point win over the Calgary Stampeders. This week, both teams look to build off what they did well in Week 1 in an attempt to pick up an important win early in the 2026 season.

This week, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats look to re-create their successful start in their first game against the Alouettes, but this time, they need to find a way to finish the game and clinch a victory. One of the adjustments the Tiger-Cats need to make is to plan to rely more on their running game than they did in Week 1 to keep the Blue Bombers from grinding down the Hamilton defensive front seven. To get a win in Winnipeg, the Tiger-Cats' defensive line will have to step up and perform better than they did last week. Getting linebacker Wynton McManis back on the field would provide a big boost, but the injury report still shows that McManis is not practicing due to a knee injury.

Coming into Week 2, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and quarterback Zach Collaros are working to get in sync with new offensive coordinator Tommy Condell. Of course, Condell is also a former offensive coordinator for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, which should add some interesting dynamics to this matchup. A big difference between Condell's offensive game plan in Winnipeg and those he utilized in Hamilton is the ability of the Blue Bombers to establish their running game with Brady Oliveira behind a strong Blue Bombers offensive line. In addition, Winnipeg defensive lineman Jake Ceresna had a big week against Calgary with 3.0 quarterback sacks, and that means Hamilton will have to find an answer to protect Bo Levi Mitchell against the pressure created by Ceresna.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats Key to Victory #1: Protect the Football

The difference between winning and losing in Week 1 for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats was two turnovers. In the third quarter, while Hamilton held a 24-10 lead, Bo Levi Mitchell threw an interception to Robert Kennedy III of the Montreal Alouettes, which Kennedy turned into a pick-six, turning the momentum of the game from Hamilton to Montreal. Despite that change in momentum, the Tiger-Cats and Montreal ended up going to overtime, but another turnover by Tiger-Cats wide receiver Keric Wheatfall led to the Alouettes winning the game with a short field goal.

This week, the Tiger-Cats need to be willing to lean more on their running game to create a balance between their running game and passing attack. While the Tiger-Cats are loaded when it comes to their wide receiver arsenal, they have to avoid focusing too much on utilizing their passing game, especially to wide receiver Kenny Lawler, and distribute the ball to more diverse targets in Hamilton's group of skilled players. By running the ball more regularly, the Tiger-Cats will have a chance to shorten the game, especially if they have a lead and reduce the opportunities the Blue Bombers have to put more points on the scoreboard.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats Key to Victory #2: Force Zach Collaros Out of Rhythm

Another aspect of the Tiger-Cats' game plan is finding multiple ways to put pressure on Blue Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros. When Collaros is given time to complete his read progression, he still has the ability to dissect the Tiger-Cats' secondary. To help support Collaros as he begins reaching the end of his career in the CFL, the Blue Bombers added offensive tackle Jarell Broxton and former Tiger-Cats wide receiver Tim White.

Ideally, the Tiger-Cats can produce a consistent pass rush with edge rusher Julian Howsare leading the way. If Hamilton has to begin blitzing to put pressure on Collaros, they will create more opportunities for the Blue Bombers passing game to find openings in the Tiger-Cats pass coverage. Unlike Montreal quarterback Davis Alexander, Collaros is more of a pocket-passer, so Hamilton should be able to do a better job of keeping Collaros on his heels rather than escaping the pocket to extend plays.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats Key to Victory #3: Contain Brady Oliviera

The Blue Bombers' biggest advantage over the Tiger-Cats is their ability to establish a consistent rushing attack with running back Brady Oliviera. Oliviera is an elite power runner in the CFL, and behind Winnipeg's offensive line, he always has a chance to take over a game. That, coupled with Hamilton's tendency to stop opposing running games, produces a big opportunity for Winnipeg to pound the ball on the ground and establish the tempo of the game.

For Hamilton to prevent the Blue Bombers from dominating the game with their running game, the Tiger-Cats need to win on 1st down. By winning on 1st down, Hamilton can create situations where the Blue Bombers will have to rely more on their passing game than they prefer. If Winnipeg consistently finds itself in 2nd and long, then the Tiger-Cats' pass rush has a better opportunity to play with more aggression and become a bigger factor in the game.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats Key to Victory #4: Maintain Discipline in a Hostile Environment

In addition to facing their former offensive coordinator, Condell, and the challenge of containing the Blue Bombers' running game with Brady Oliveira, the Tiger-Cats will need to navigate a much more hostile road environment. Winnipeg is one of the hot spots in the CFL for fan support, and despite this game being played on a Thursday night, the Blue Bombers should have good attendance. That means that Hamilton will have to perform under pressure in a loud environment, which will be more complex than what they faced last week.

The easiest way for Hamilton to manage the game environment in Winnipeg will be to score early and take an early lead. If they can take a lead early and then manage the game, they can keep the Blue Bombers' fan base from getting riled up, which will neutralize the effect of the crowd support. On the other hand, this is one of the worst weeks to have a slow start on offense, so Hamilton needs to come out aggressively when they have the ball, especially in the 1st half of the game.

Game Prediction: Hamilton Tiger-Cats 31, Winnipeg Blue Bombers 27
