4 More Years of Austin Mack: Montreal Alouettes Extend WR Through 2028

The Montreal Alouettes extended Austin Mack for 4 additional seasons on Tuesday extending him through the 2028 season. He was previously set to become a free agent following this season. Mack was a breakout CFL star in 2023.

Mack was recently in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons. He signed with Atlanta in January but was waived after 1 preseason game on August 12. He was brought back to Montreal shortly after on August 19. Now he is set to be with the franchise for many years to come.

“Austin is an important part of this team, and we just proved it with this agreement,” Alouettes General Manager Danny Maciocia stated. “This receiver has shown great chemistry on the field both with our quarterbacks and his other teammates. We are very excited that he will be an Alouette for many years.”

Mack made a significant impact in his CFL rookie season in 2023 as he finished the season 5th in receiving yards having caught 78 passes for 1,154 yards and 4 touchdowns. He added 13 receptions for 185 yards and 2 touchdowns. In the Grey Cup, he caught 6 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown.

He played his college ball for Ohio State where he recorded 79 receptions for 1,050 yards and 6 touchdowns prior to signing with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He dressed in 11 games with the Giants and caught 7 passes for 91 yards.

In Closing

To see such a long contract signed in the CFL is a positive. It feels at times that key players change teams quickly in the CFL. Too often CFL fans have purchased a jersey of a certain player only for them to sign with a different CFL team. To have Mack signed through 2028 creates a great opportunity for fans to purchase his jersey with some assurance that he will be a key part of the team for seasons to come.
