4 Things to Watch for in Calgary’s Final Preseason Game

Preseason games aren’t the most important things in the world.

However, when your team has been struggling for the last two years, they feel bigger.

After a rough two-season stretch, Calgary fans are looking for improvement. They saw some of that in game one.

Win, lose, or draw, that’s what fans are looking for in game two: improvement.

Here are 4 specific things to look for in the Calgary Stampeders’ second and final preseason game.

Quarterbacks

After sitting out game one, fans will get their first look at new starting QB Vernon Adams Jr.

“He should have a good half. Hard to say though, if he’s in a rhythm, get some flow, who knows — 20–30 — plays but he’s gotta play.”- Dave Dickenson

Presumptive backp P.J. Walker looked good at times in game one. It will be interesting to see if he looks more comfortable in his second outing.

Canadian Quincy Vaughn is another interesting QB to look out for. He came in for one play against the Lions. That play was a 1-yard TD.

It would be nice to see him get a couple more chances this week to see if that’s a role for him going forward.

Damien Alford

Hopes are naturally high for Alford since he was the #1 pick in this year’s draft.

He definitely looks the part, but fans didn’t get to see much of him last week. Alford finished the game with one catch on one target.

He could use a few more targets before we get into the regular season.

Ludovick Chochette

After one game, Ludovick Chochette looks like he might be the steal of the draft. He was picked 47th, but after game one, it’s hard to see how 46 guys were ranked ahead of him.

  • 6 rushes for 46 yards
  • 1 td
  • 2 catches for 16 yards

Is he a one-hit wonder?

Or is he going to be a valuable contributor this season?

This game won’t be enough to determine that, but fans hope to see things pointing in that direction.

Global Punters

Field position is huge in the CFL.

The Stampeders’ return men did their job against the Lions. Unfortunately, the punting didn’t quite match.

Calgary has a pair of Australian p

unters.

Neither was bad in game one, but they weren’t great either.

  • Mark Vassett: 40-yard average on 3 punts
  • Fraser Masin: 39-yard average on 2 punts

It will be interesting to see if one or both of the punters separate themselves this week.
