Montreal Alouettes quarterback Cody Fajardo is set to return to the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Edmonton Elks, according to TSN’s Kenzie Lalonde. Head coach Jason Maas confirmed Fajardo’s return on Wednesday.
RDS reporter Didier Ormejuste observed Fajardo practicing with the starting offense during team preparations. Newly signed receiver Austin Mack also joined the first-team unit in practice.
Fajardo has been sidelined since Week 6 when he suffered an injury during a game against the Toronto Argonauts. Before his absence, Fajardo had impressive stats, completing 141 of 182 passes for 1,636 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. His performance had sparked discussions about his potential as a Most Outstanding Player candidate.
During Fajardo’s absence, backup quarterback Davis Alexander led the team to three victories as a starter and orchestrated a comeback win against Toronto after replacing the injured Fajardo.
Mack, who recently signed with the Alouettes following an NFL stint, was part of Montreal’s Grey Cup-winning team last November. In that championship game, he contributed 103 yards and a touchdown. Mack’s 2022 regular season performance included 78 receptions for 1,154 yards and 4 touchdowns, earning him both East Division and CFL All-Star honors.
The Alouettes, currently boasting a 9-1 record, are preparing to host the Edmonton Elks on Sunday.
