The BC Lions announced on Monday the signing of American defensive lineman Matt Spatny. Spatny played his collegiate ball at Lehigh University and recently attended a rookie mini-camp with the Seattle Seahawks.
The Lions also announced the release of American defensive lineman Colby Taylor from the practice roster.
Matt Spatny - Lehigh (6’2, 250 lbs)
Spatny played in 43 games with 32 starts over his 4 seasons with Lehigh University, where he recorded 62 solo tackles, 49 assisted tackles, 34 tackles for a loss, 25.5 sacks, a pass defended, and 2 fumbles recovered.
As a senior in 2025, Spatny earned honorable mention Associated Press All-America honors for the second straight season and first-team All-Patriot League. He started all 11 games, led the Mountain Hawks with 14 tackles for loss and posted nine sacks, breaking Lehigh’s career sack record.
In 2024, he led the Patriot League with 11.5 sacks and earned first-team All-Patriot League and honorable mention All-America honors.
At his pro day in March, he ran a 4.65-second 40-yard dash, hit 24 reps on the bench, a 38-inch vertical, 9’11” broad jump, 4.44 20-yard shuttle, and a 7.45-second 3-cone drill.
